Ok some more photos of yesterday work!!! Removal of Instrument Cluster

1- to take the Headlight Switch off, you'll need to press the clip with a screwdriver and pull.

even with everithing free and unscrewed, it was really hard to take the instrument cluster out.

It should be enought speedo cable to let us reach the plug in the speedometer... but

I'hade to lay douwn in the car floor to access to the speedometer from behind! Just like in the next pictures.

4speed;
I just went through all this myself. I swapped out a dash ( the entire padded part) out of a 75 Ascona Sportwagon. I installed a crack free one. This was done with the underdash a/c unit still intact. Not a easy swap.

He's right.

Hey 4-Speed,

That dash swap is no picnic. Gene's right. That was the dash in my Sport Wagon that he swapped. I've done it in a Manta Rallye before as well, no day at the park.

If you need parts for your Manta, let us know. I have lots of Manta pieces and some friends with parts as well.

That's a great looking car.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful Manta with us! It is neat to see a small bumper Manta in white, and one in such nice shape. Looks like you're doing a fine job of cleaning it up.

Parts

What part for the glove box or the complete assembly itself? Would you need the factory lamp for the glove box. How many wheel nuts do you need? I have some that are in good condition or are new. What rubber for the bumpers? Is this the rubber piece for the bumperette?

Let me know and we will begin the search. Gene is coming to visit me next week from Georgia to Texas.

Cheers,

Dave

Thumbs up

Hey, that is a beautiful Manta. Your detailed photos of disassembling the instrument cluster sure did put a big smile on my face. I did the same thing a few times when I had my Ascona A. The photos brought back 25+ years old images in my head. Wonderful memories.

That is a beautiful car! Congratulations, I know exactly how much fun you are having. I love my yellow Manta but have to admit I like the skinny bumpers better. I also like no bumpers like MantaAscona has.

You can disconnect the speedometer cable from by reaching around the cluster if you first unclip the cable from a restraint under the floorboard. That frees up a little more length. (I cut up my hand trying to do it from under the dash.)

Thanks BQS4 and Dave...

In deed I need some parts for my manta... it's not easy to find in good condition here in Portugal.
Such as: glove compartments (mine is broken); rubbers in rear bumper; and Chrome wheel nuts

I've been looking for parts in ebay, and all most everything come from Germany.
They are not very economical… but from USA if it’s not referred as an offer there will be some tax to pay

New and reinforcement of the foams, and new "leather imitation" parts!

the metal structure were treated with sand jet and "moralised"? (Treated for no corrosion).

Sorry for my bad English, the photos will speak for me:

Nice Manta. Anyone notice this rear bumper? I have not seen one like that. I did look thru the gallery and found a few like this one, all from Euro members,I think. My 73 has the plate and light below the bumper, my 74 had the plate and lights in the center of the panel. Is this a euro bumper?
