71 Manta is almost finished

This is my car now, about 95% complete. Just need to touch up some last minute details (cleaning, emblems, etc...) and its done!

Drove the car last Sunday and its really really fun. Very good power and drivability. The carburators still need a little adjustment though to get them running even better. Suspension is very good too thanks to KONI shocks and a very solid body to start with.

Is that a role cage in the car? What did you do to the interior? My role cage was in the way of my rear seat so I built wooden shelf on the floor and mounted wood to where the rear seat back went. This gave me a place for my speakers and amps.

Great looking car. sits nice and level.

I built the interior to a sort of "clubsport" specifications. 2 Recaro seats in front and a full roll cage inside. The interior is complete with full carpet and all. I felt that since the body is now 36 years old, it could use some extra stiffening.

I no longer installed a stereo system so radio and amp placement was not an issue.

I have uploaded some interior and engine shots in another thread. Will take some new ones and post them here.

Dave, those are ATS 'classics'. I only know of one US-source for them and they're about $210 each.

Good to see you back here BTW, it's been a while since you've posted.

Bob is correct, those are ATS classic wheels. I was able to get them much cheaper though, directly from the factory through their website. Just send them an e-mail, get quick replies and very good customer service.

I forgot to post soome interior and engine bay photos....

Are the upper an lower radiator "hoses" for some aftermarket kit for another car? Maybe cold air intake for something?

And I didn't think that they ever really got done. There always seems to be something that you either want to do or have to do. Or then you decide that you want to redo something.\

Very clean car, though.

Very nice Manta

That is a beautiful car! Congratulations. Not sure where in the Phillipines you are located. You should connect with Scott Delohery though if you can. He recently relocated to Manila from Virginia here in the states. He's a Manta fanatic himself.
Scott's user name on the site is Sportwagon75, not sure how often he is checking these days.

Nice Opels are everywhere in the world!
What is that radiator on the passenger side of the engine compartment, right hand from your heater box?

To answe some questions posted here:

1. The upper radiator hoses are made of stainless stee tube connected with silicone hoses. Set-up is similar to turbocharger plumbing. This gives it better reliability.

2. The "radiator" in the engine compartment is actually the oil cooler.

3. I did post a message for Scott in another thread, I'll be waiting for his reply.

Thanks.

What a cracking looking 'A' series.

The shifter doesn't look stock, but sure does look like a manual. You have a standard transmission so that is a crankcase oil cooler? Where is the pump? Does any air get to the cooler or do you have a fan underneath?

Just curious. Love the car.

Jim

TIMEMACHINE: The gearbox is a ZF 5-speed unit with 1.00 5th gear, hence the different looking shifter. It is however a genuine Opel gearbox so its basically a bolt-on piece. The oil cooler is for engine oil connected by a sandwich plate in the oil filter. I have a set of cooling fans underneath. I actually borrowed the idea from some of the Lancer EVO's I've seen....

MOTOR MOUTH: Yes! I want a GT/E spoiler. Give me some details please!

Paul - I had an air dam on my 75 Manta. I got it from Charles Goin. It was an original Opel part that came from Germany. Take a look in my gallery or the 2006 Carlisle gallery to see photos of it. On the back it had relief lines moulded into the fiberglass. I cut along these lines and they formed a perfect cut-out to fit around the shock absorbers for the 5MPH bumpers. The car looks soooo good with an air dam. Sadly...I'm here in Manila and my car now lives in Georgia.

Scott, I've been trying to find an image of your car with the spoiler you're refering too. If it's a Opel spoiler it should be identical to the one I've pictured as these where fitted to the 'A' series GT/E, the Uk Broadspeed Turbo and the European Turbo, both of the Turbo models are very rare.....that said an 'A' series GT/E is as rare as rocking horse doo doo!.

I'm speaking to my man later on today and will give you a price on a repro one......finding a genuine one is a 6-12month wait and then the price is in the lap of the gods.

I'll hopefully PM you both later today / tommorrow.
