Unanswered: Manta fuel sending units

Anyone know for sure if the 1975 Manta fuel tank sending unit is the same as the earlier Manta units and if they interchange?

They are not the same, and are not interchangeable. They're shaped differently and the '75 has a larger diameter fuel pick up tube.
I had two manta fuel tanks renewed last year (a '74 and a '75) and had the shop alter them so that either fuel sender would work in either tank. They basically added inlet/outlet tubes and a baffle to keep fuel near the inlet. The sender is now used only for sensing fuel level (the pick up tube will be blocked off).

The senders are pretty easy to repair in most cases, unless corroded beyond repair.

I recently fixed my '75's sender having to add a new cork float and, when it still didn't quite show full, had to clean and re-tention the poteniometer's wiper arm. It's a simple affair and, unless really corroded, can probably be made to work as Todd said. Just be sure you have it grounded to the frame well when testing it with the gauge when it's removed from the tank and off of the car. I had a couple false starts in testing before getting a good ground.
