Unanswered: Manta instrument bezel

What was the purpose of the hole under the fasten seat belt light? My car doesn't have it. Was It an option not on my 73 Manta?

That is where the dimmer knob for instrument lights is located.

Exactly, the dimmer knob.

Most 71 Mantas did not have in and most 72 Mantas did not have it.

That makes sense. On my car I can only turn the dash lights on or off by turning the headlight switch.

I'll post want ad and try to find a dimmer to add to my car.

Thanks guys.

Don't bother, usually by now those dimmer switches are toasted. Either keep what you got, or do a little looking around and find a more modern equivalent. If you can't stand to see that hole in your dash, you really have to crook your head around to see it behind the steering wheel, then just glue a piece of plastic in there and paint it.

I just bought a replacement dimmer switch from a member here. Ask around or post in the items wanted section. I got mine for $17 including shipping.

The old dimmers had heavy windings and will usually come back if you rotate them back and forth a hundred times or so. You can also spritz a little TV tuner cleaner in there.

An easy to do job. It's a simple rheostat. Plenty available aftermarket. And you can still make the stock knob work. Just search for automotive switches.
