How rare is a factory LSD in a manta rallye?

i was working on mounting my electric fuel pump this past weekend and noticed that my car has a lsd. I was just wondering how rare this is and if it is any stronger than the regular open diff? it there any easy way to tell what gear ratio it is?

Its a '73 manta rallye 4spd.

Rare in the sense that they were not available as an option 'as delivered'. But back 'in the day', a dealer could special order one from Germany and install it as a 'dealer option'. Or back when the cars were fairly new you could have ordered one from an aftermarket Opel parts supplier and fit it yourself. (More Opel, Mantapart, C&R, Parts and Polish, Opel Parts and Service, etc.)

They are in fact much stronger than the factory open diff. Torque tube is just as weak however!

Should be a 3.67, if it's in fact stock. Otherwise, the only way to accurately tell is to pop the diff cover, and count the teeth.

Thank you for the quick answer! It also has an ARA a/c Setup so i guess it was installed as an 'as delivered' option. I have the original window sticker and don't remember that being on it (i'll have to check) but it could have been put in after the fact also. I was pleasantly surprised when i found out. I Just installed a weber 38/38, electric fuel pump, and already had a compufire. I think im going to be porting the intake manifold this weekend. slowly making this low compression car run pretty good.

How did you notice your car has LSD? Did you open the diff cover and see it in there? Having classic Opel with an LSD from the dealer is as rare as hens teeth. I would hate for you to get your hopes up and it not be true.

I would have thought the easiest way to tell would be to spin the rear wheels whilst the cars jacked up. If it has an LSD then when you spin one rear wheel the other wheel should rotate in the same direction, without an LSD the other wheel will either not spin or will spin in the opposite direction.
