Unanswered: 73 Manta (Veronica) restore (pics)

well here we go again same story just a different car. I'm hoping to have her finished by the end of the year. I don't plan on hod rodding the car, i just want a sexy cruiser.

June 25, 2009

Cleared out space in the garage and sprayed the car for any kind of bugs etc.. pulled out the seats, carpet, and started to clean the rest of the interior.

here is a few pics of what she looks like right now.

Thumbs up

OMFG!!! that is the EXACT car my dad bought years ago for my mom(she never drove it). boy does that bring back memories. that sorta became our back-up car and then my dad used it on a paper route(450-500 customers). he drove that thing into the ground and it kept going. body fell apart as is custom in the Cleveland area, but i still have the motor and trans here. looking forward to seeing the finished result. BTW, are you going to keep the original color? don't see any like that anymore.

That car is a Luxus. The interior pieces are very specific to the Luxus model. If the carpet is good and you don't intend to use it or dye it, someone may want it as well as some of the other pieces including the "Luxus" badge on the back.

Nice find. It looks like it has a nice underdash a.c. unit with it as well. Good luck with the restoration.

It's an exact copy of my first Opel, except for the automatic trans and a different A/C unit and mine had a vinyl top. I wish I had mine back.
Nice find.

First off, Thank you all for such positive feedback on my car.

Second, I plan on keeping her red as for maroon i'm not sure, I've searched alot of Opels and I really like a brighter red on them. As for the carpet and seats I plan of shampooing the carpet today and i'm going to dye it back to original color in the future. The badges i want to keep, I am actually very fond of the "Automatic" badge on the back haha. The car did have a vinyl top on it originally but i do not believe i will put on back on.

Brandon;
The vinyl top is not hard, it's the little chrome trim around it, 3 pieces. I know where a manta has those pieces....

Nice manta, I look forward to seeing you work it out.
Is that an all-trac? The fenders look a little beefy to be a regular celica.

Updates on Veronica

hey everyone!!
Started back sanding and priming the trunk deck and the hood today, i will have more pictures posted soon of my progress (unfortunate boating accident with my camera). Thankfully there hasn't been any surprises under the paint so far. This is the first older car i've sanded and it amazes me that u can see the lead in the paint while your sanding it. I'm wondering what kind of weight difference there will be (if any) after its repainted.

thanks,
-Brandon
