71 GT Carb Accel Shaft Removal

Have 71 GT 1.9 liter Opel I want to overhaul the carb. I cannot remove the pin from the accelerator shaft that attaches to the carb throttle plate shaft.

The Opel factory maintenance manual says to remove the pin which is 90 degrees to the shaft and than pull the accelerator shaft from the carb ball. I cannot remove he pin - is there a trick??? Is it just stuck???
