Any Lock shop should be able to make you a set of keys, provided he has the correct blanks, which I think OGTS may have some, or I think it was Charlse Goin that had some, but I do rember someone having some here in the group. If you can not find any I will check at the local lock shop and see if they either have gotten more in stock, or can get them? As I had him make me 15 keys for the Opels I did not have duplicates on and bought all he had at that time and I needed a few more. If all else fails I can put an ignition lock with matching door handles together for you. (send me a PM if needed)

Mike, if your door locks and ignition switch use the same key, you could pull one door handle with lock and take it to a locksmith and mayhap they can cut some new ones from the door lock cylinder. The gas cap is a whole different ball of wax though. A master locksmith can make a key for that by judicious hand filing a key blank. But it may be costly.

Well, I am going to pick up the car from southern PA, and i ahve to trailer them back here i do have the setr of keys for my 69 but the 70 had the ignition on the same keychain that got lost. I do not know when I am getting the cars but I know I have to remove them promptly when im there (court case) I can only be on the property for a few minutes. the steering column lock doesnt work so there no problem with getting it on the trailer i just wasnt sure what to do.

A key cut by impression from the door handle will not turn the ignition lock because the ignition locks has more pins than the door lock. When you get it where you are going with it, take the door panel off and take the door handle off the door, there should be a key code on the inside lock part of the handle, a locksmith can cut a key from that provided he has a proper blank.

Key codes

If you do as suggested, pull the door handle off and get the code, chances are that the ignition is the same. I can cut a key by the factory code just like the dealer did. I find this is a truer cut key than even a locksmith can provide. Hopefully it still holds the original parts. My email is keithlundholm(at)yahoo.com or PM me. I can save you a little money from the locksmith as well

The "Can of Keys" is also meant to collect any unwanted keys anyone might have. Strictly Opel keys, not just any keys. LOL

I would like to try some of the gas cap keys that may be in the can, I already ruined one gas cap taking it apart trying to make a key using the instructions in this forum. I used too much heat to melt the little sealing disc that holds the two shells together. I won't even take the key just use it to cut another one, bought some blanks off of ebay awhile back have about 3 more shots at it. LOL

I could do a search around the house and find my long since departed '73 GT's keys to add to the can.

Well i had a chat with the postmaster today he is searching for me, I called my toyota dealership if I show proof of ownership (i have the title) they can make me a key at the dealership for my truck. so thats one key down now i need my two opel keys and 2 GMC keys there somewhere in NY. But I would love to see the can of keys at carlisle because I am buying a parts car that has no keys but claims to have a descent engine.

Maybe my local locksmith liked the gas cap challenge. He spent a lot of time sticking the blank in the cap, rotating it, pulling it out, looking for marks, filing, and repeating the steps. After breaking one blank in the cap and 30 minutes into his second try, he told me that he would call me when it was done. He called me the next day and told me to pick it up with the new keys he had made. He only charge me $22.

Thats a pretty good deal, I thought it would be easy that way,(poke and hope) I used blue machinist dye and lighted magnifying stand, by the time I had the first one whittled down it was a goner. I took the lock apart, it is unique keying because not only is it keyed it keyed at different steps. I was close, but it wasn't horseshoes.

He was being nice. Who knows how long he spent to get one key made or how many times that he broke a blank. It's not something that he enjoyed doing, I'll tell you that.

Gene,

I am going to sent the can of keys your way, tomorrow. I will also send you the Opel blitzes that we talked about. This way the keys are out of my hands and in yours on the East coast. Also, I have included all extra keys I had to the collection.

I've never had a key made. How much does it cost? I've got keys for all my GT's -- and if it doesn't cost too much, maybe I'll get copies made of all of them, and just send them to whoever has the can. Free of charge. The more keys, the better, and I just like helping out..

Have at least one spare!

We had to learn the hard way through a series of "key" disasters. You need at least one spare key for all ignitions, doors and gas caps for every car.

Fortunately due to the help of several Opelers, we have not been stranded, yet.
