    sanded

I checked the fit of the front screen today and made some minor adjustments. Thanks for the tip Anonymous. I worked for a few hours and finished prep sanding for the primer today. The DTM arrived yesterday so next step is to mask and lay the epoxy.

Recheck the structure around the front of the driver's side headlight to make sure it's round and allows the bucket assembly to rotate freely.

    bucket

The filler by the headlight was actually not done by me. I discovered it when sanding for primer. The buckets work perfectly. The filler there has a crack in it, so I will repair it after primer. It looks like it had quite a bit of body work done before the last repaint. I found repair panels in front of both rear wheel wells and behind both front ones.

I hope to make it look factory fresh by block sanding the whole thing after the primer is layed.

    body work

Actually I am an Animal Control Officer. This is only the second car I have done body work on. My motto for working on cars is learn as you go. I read read read then give it a shot. This is the fourth vehicle I have done a restoration or build on. I know old Jeeps inside and out but this is a totally new adventure for me, and I am LOVING it.

Here is a thread from my last body work job:

Body Work Thread for the Siberian Express - International Full Size Jeep Association

The paint on the jeep I did a single stage Acrylic Urethane. I am going to try a base/clear on the Opel. I am also going to dive into the world of powder coating so we will see how that goes as well.

I try not to bore everyone on here with simple little steps but then again, thats how I learned, reading other people's step by step builds. I think showing the mistakes helps everyone as well.

    Progress

Ok, some progress finally, other than sanding. She is officially in primer. I sprayed the entire thing with DTM epoxy primer from Eastwood.com. It went on really well. I had a couple of runs that I will sand down. Biggest lesson learned for the color, thin coats, don't worry about undercoat showing through on the first coat.

Next comes a light coat(skim) of black.

    Rage Gold

I have spent the last couple weeks laying down thin coats of Rage Gold. First time I have used this stuff. It is amazing. SOOOO much better than the cheap bondo stuff. After laying it, I sanded and shaped it with 80 grit. After the shape was perfect I used 400 grit. Then I filled the few pinholes with glaze.

In the picture below you can see the almost finished product. The door and major damage are done and perfect. I redid on small spot on the flare that you can see is still green and not sanded yet.

    2nd coat of primer

More progress this weekend. I finished all of the body work and sanding. I scuffed the entire car again and did a second coat of primer. Now I just have to wait for a good paycheck to buy my paint.

    small steps

Finally I have made some small steps. I got my powdercoating operation up and running in the garage. Bought a nice oven for $40 on craigslist and wire it up to the same line my 220 welder is on.

I powdercoated the exterior screens, the front bumperettes, and front amber light housings, Gloss black. I also purchased 4 bmw 320i rims and with brand new tires, Falken Sinceras, for $200. I sanded primed and painted one using VHT wheel coatings. I like the look but I am trying to decide what highlights I am going to put on it. I am thinking of painting the center ring of the wheel chrome or Fireglow orange (where the black is on the original). Here is a pic of the wheels.

    opel symbol

Yes. I am trying to find an opel center cap sticker that will fit. The center circle is only 2" or 50mm so I am having a problem finding one. I may have to custom order them.

    OGTS order

I have literally looked at hundreds of gt photos and my plans have changed. I found that every picture I was drawn to had side skirts and front spoiler. After working a bunch of side jobs I saved up and ordered GT05 and LT05. Gil told me he thinks the body looks unbalanced with out the LT12 rear skirts so he threw them in for Free. Great guy, lots of knowledge. Just awaiting shipment then I will document the install of all three pieces in this thread.

Still planning on painting it after in a Clear/base Fireglow Orange. Only thing I am still trying to decide on is if I wanna run a single black 14" racing stripe down the middle

I have had the double stripe & solid wide stripe down the middle also, but my favorite was an off set stripe on the drivers side to miss the bump.

    stripe

If I stripe it I am going down the middle but narrow enough to avoid the bump.

see now, yours looks cool, but put a divider line down the middle making it stripes versus stripe and i think it isnt nearly as cool.

or is your stripes blue and the white is the middle divider. haha
