It'll be pretty darn close to the design I made for you. Except the filter I have is rectangular.

I kinda forgot all about the pics/build sequence of my air filter project. I posted them on Facebook but not here.

Started with a hard maple hammerform, and made the baseplate from some .060" aluminum.

Here the filter baseplate has been tidied up a bit, and I've made the flange to bolt to the carburetor, and two air horns from some 1.75" aluminum tubing. The air horns were formed on my arbor press with a flaring die.

Holes drilled in baseplate, and air horns welded to the carb flange.

Filter baseplate then had its holes flared too.

Baseplate welded on both side to the air horns.

Grinding with a coarse cutter, then a fine cutter, with cartridge rolls, hand sanding, and then blending with scotchbrite, and finally bronze wool and dish soap.

Here I've glued (siliconed) some Uni motorcycle foam filter material into the shape of the air filter I desire. This will be a two-stage filter. This is the coarser of the two foam materials I'm using.

This stainless steel mesh was added to make the filter more rigid.

This was the tricky part. I waxed the filter baseplate multiple times, then applied silicone to the baseplate and to the filter itself. Clamped it in place. And waited... and waited, and waited. Took four days to fully cure! Still was a PITA to release, in retrospect I should have used PVA mold release. Live and learn I guess...

Nice radiused entry into the carb, with no turbulent protruding air horns. All smooth.

    And the finished product, installed.

    Fascinating project!

I'm just getting back into the Manta scene (just bought Calvin Case's old car), but this type of ingenuity and fabrication is inspiring and wonderful.

Stuff like this is really helping me form my vision.

    Steve.
