    ABS Plastic Dash Cap

Has anyone ever used the ABS plastic dash cap from OGTS? How did it turn out and how does it look?

My dash is not looking very good.

I did check in with justdashes, but I'm sure you all know how much that is.

Any other locations that do quality work?

if you keep your car out of blistering sun, they hold up and look real good. there are a few reports of them warping. But were talking Cali or Texas. Alabama I'm sure gets hot too.

Just dashes is only place I recommend for full restoration of dash. Ive tried doing it myself with good products and it is a nightmare.

My car sat outside in El Paso for 10 years, but it was already bad when I bought it in 1993.

If I send it to Just Dashes, I'll send the tray that surrounds the stick shift and light shift lever. I'll probably have to take out a second mortgage though.

LOL, here in Texas, we call that a dash in "Good Condition," hardly cracked.

Heck I've seen them that looked like a road map of Texas, and the Interstates were a 1/4 inch wide. Your's ain't bad at all.

But to answer your question. Yes, the OGTS dash cap is wunnerfull. Especially for the price. It's not too hard to install either.

    Dash Cap

Personally, I don't like them, I think the only other less expensive option is the dash wrap, it is a very nice piece of material that is made to fit from OGTS. Have it done by a pro, runs about 150.00 for the install, you can do it yourself, but do a lot of research on how to fix the cracks. I did mine myself, ended up taking all the old dash material off of the top,( Texas Road Map ) installed new foam, then recovered. It will complament the interior along with the rest of your hard work...Vinyl Stitched Dash Cover - Dash - Interior - Opel GT - Store | Opel GT Source

I had gotten one from Tundra and I spent a full 5 minutes just pushing it in place. I then forgot all about it and it stayed on the car for a year with me totally not noticing it. I never bothered to glue it or tuck it in around the instrument panel and other locations and it looked fantastic. I only took it off when I stripped the car to put the parts on my new car and I think Knorm ended up with it. As a quick inexpensive fix, they're awesome.

I'm looking for a 99.9% perfect dash panel for my '73. I have a 99.9% perfect panel for a '69 that I'm willing to trade. I'm posting pictures of the panel I have.

There are zero cracks in any of the plastic. The radio hole is original, zero cuts. Nothing is warped.

The only thing I see is the plastic a little smooth where the steering wheel collar is, but you have to look pretty hard.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

if you want a different one for mounting tab reasons, it can be converted. if you want a different one for inidcator light reasons. it can be converted.

why do you want a switch?

I'm trying to keep things as original as possible. I don't want a rectangular lights on my '73. The one I have right now for my 73 will work. I'll have to do a little plastic welding on the back, but it's got some slight warping up by the indicator lights.

That's an extremely desirable instrument panel.

Someone give him a plain ole panel before he comes to his senses!

I will let someone else swap with him before I offer mine up.
But I will swap mine with him if nobody else wants to.

I prefer the 69 panels, myself.

    Likely not.

I only prefer the 69 dash because my first and second GT's were '69 and I was used to the rectangular indicators.

In reality, they are a pain because the tab points usually break off eventually.

I was only holding off because I don't have a '69 that I'm restoring so there's no reason I should keep a person, who is restoring a '69, from obtaining a part they might need.

I have an extra '73 dash insert so there's no loss on my end if I'm swapping straight across.

Pretty rare, fairly mint condition, radio hole unmolested, gnarly/edgy/coolass indicator light display. Any further questions?

Heck Dave...I'll trade you...I had two 69 Dashes for my resto both were warp and the one am using now I had to repair a few gauge posts that broke off...and I know the next time I mess around with the dash insert It will probably break more.
Let me find my later ones, I'll check them and post a photo later..
Here a picture of my 69 Dash... It's been re dyed Black and white face gauges.
I'll trade/swap or buy let me know after I post the 73 dash

Hmmm....interesting......I just noticed that the dash says "VDO" on it.

I wonder if they had a hand in designing the thing?

Swap 1973 Dash Insert for a 1969 Dash Insert

Dave, Here what I found, This my extra 73 Dash Insert, I took out all the gauges today and checked it out. It's not 100% so take a look, there no cracks and hardly any warping.. all the pins and stand offs are good...only thing after I removed everthing and clean it up a bit...The top right corner has been lightly filed..I seen this before...when it's a tight fit. I have a Just Dash... Dash and it is very tight in that corner, so might have to do the same...but once it installed you will never know
I left the Lighter insert for you
I would just smooth is over a little and have it re dyed Black... Dye is not paint and holds better had a few thing done, and looks like new again

Take a Look @ photo's and let me know...P/M if need be

Mike, thanks for uploading the pics of your dash panel. I see you have the cutout for the AM radio tuning. Did all of them have that?

I see your panel is warped up by the indicator lights. That's where my '73 panel is warped also.

I'm checking with a few other folks, but I'll let you know.

    Again, thank you.
