    GT Restoration

After 20 years or so of owning this GT I have it up at the shop to get redone. When I bought the car it had just been repainted to red from the original Chartreuse. It originally was an Oklahoma car so it has never had any rust and hoping it should be a matter of sanding the red paint off and repairing a few minor door dings etc. I have the interior gutted and had my dash redone at Just Dashes. Floors are solid as are the rockers. I have gathered over the last year or so all new rubber, headliner, stainless steel bumpers etc as well as NOS lenses and housings. Seats I had redone a few years back so they are good but I did replace the bolt on the pass side and got the ratchet so it catches properly.

Nice progress. You'd mentioned that you bought the stainless bumpers. How do they compare to the production one in fit, quality etc?

Thanks and good luck on continued progress.

    Stainless bumpers

Bought the bumpers 4 or 5 years ago but never had them out of the box yet so won't know until it's going back together. I've only heard good about them from other members though.

How my months did Just Dashes take to complete dash?

    Just Dashes

Sent it out early Sept and it came back early December. I sent them the worst dash I had (the one that was in the car only had a couple of minor cracks)

Wow....they refinished that? That is great.

Stainless steel bumpers that I have fit great.

I removed it prior to sending it out. You can see in the first photo there are 2 dimples to where it should be reinstalled.

They refinish it and put the vin tag back when done. They do great work. Not cheap.

Not in my case (~10 years ago) Dash went out with VIN plate, and came back without. They apologized but were never able to locate the plate (still missing )

Looking good Gordy. So, are you going back to the original color? Chartreuse GTs are a really rare bird. I'm sure Chris would love it!

Yes, it will be Chartreuse. Thought about doing the tail panel semi- gloss black but will keep it the way Opel originally did it. Also thought about semi gloss black wheels with a matching Rallye stripe between the wheel wells lower down on the car but trying to resist those thoughts

Just wondering out loud: does the body plate show the paint color as Chartreuse? There is an awful lot of yellow on the floors and windshield frames and those areas don't always get repainted. I don't know the paint code for chartreuse, but I'm sure someone here will be able to supply it.

Chartreuse color code is ZZ and the only other yellow for 1970 GT model (from the dealer options and source info book) was color code TT. Cars up at the shop but I will look next time. The Chartreuse in both the pics of my car and the color sample from the book do not photo well (or maybe it's my I Phone camera.

Did some sanding on the door jambs today. If they would have used the paint they used on my GT when they painted it red, on the Titanic hull when she was built, she would still be floating.

Got it home and removed brake booster and M/C ( I have new upgraded ones from OGTS) and having those out of the way is a big help in pulling the old wiring harness out and getting the new in. I bought the new aluminum fuse box and wiring harness from Splendid Parts. Only wiring that will remain of the old is the instrument panel wiring.

    Looking good Gordy.
    That GT Chartreuse really pops!
Just curious if you have a target date for getting it back on the road,
or if your timeline is flexible. I'm hoping to see it at a future Springfield
    meet.
    Cheers,
