If I could pick only one topic, it would be header design and construction. Next would be chassis tuning, but let's not turn this into a track day.

Availability? Bob, you really need to tell us what would work best for your schedule.

Many people put cams in their hypo project without proper cam timing in mind. If you want to do a segment on this subject I would be only too happy to contribute my brown 4 dr as the display example.

Thanks for the suggestions Duane. At that rate, we'd have to think about making it a two day event to cover everything! I gather from your suggestions that most of the items you're interested in pertain to the Manta. I think in all fairness we have to cover mechanical bits that cover all models, plus an even split of GT vs. Manta specifics.

Time will be an issue, so we won't have time to make or modify everything for everybody. I hope though, that I can have some completed or partially completed components that people can see in person, plus some discussions about those components. On top of that there can be some hands-on buildups, the head porting, the intake porting, distributor prep, etc. And I was thinking of digging out some oddball performance parts, and maybe a sample of all the cylinder head types that I have as a display.

Gregg, while I agree your car would be a good example of the benefits of degreeing in a cam, I would recommend against degreeing a cam that's in a car. It's a major PITA, and takes a LOT longer than doing it to an engine on an engine stand during the assembly process. It's not practical from a time point of view.

Bob,
Actually, I took into consideration that most of the cars and people there would be GT oriented. I think just about everything I mentioned, except the front sway bars and control arm boxing, would apply to GT's as well as Manta/Ascona and Kadett. I wasn't really trying to make a track day out of it. However, I believe most of the people who will be in attendance (and everyone else that follows your work for that matter) are interested in performance modifications rather than stock repairs and restorations. The FSM covers stock repairs quite well in terms that just about anyone can follow. Your fabrication skills, technical performance knowledge and innovative ideas are what impresses and motivates us all to make our slow and mundane cars into respectable performers. The basics such as jetting weber 32/36's, '75 "big brake" upgrades and Pertronix installation has been covered to death between this forum and Carlisle meets. In no way do I expect you to cover all of those ideas in my last post, they were just ideas. I too noticed that there was a lack of topics being offered so I figured I would throw a bunch out there to pick from. If I am wrong about the preference of performance topics everyone can let me know by posting other ideas. I hope this doesn't come off as being assy as it really isn't meant to be. This is exactly why I often just keep quiet on this forum as it's too easy to misinterpret and misconvey meaning by the written versus spoken word.

Duane, I think it was excellent for you to offer up some specifics, and I'm in no way misinterpreting it as anything other than helpful suggestions. In fact you gave the best running list so far. I will continue to try to think up some additional ideas, and will post them here in addition to the suggestions already given, perhaps asking people to 'choose 5 subjects from the list' or something to that effect. If I get some voting on the subject, great, if not then I hope no one is disappointed with whatever I choose to do!

From the interest so far you could get anywhere from 10 to 30 people. The problem may be getting everyone there at once. You could just say the seminar part will start at say 10:00 make sure you are there at that time. Another thing you could do is put some of your "toys" on display and talk a little about each. I am sure the turbo project would be of high interest. BTW, I can help as an usher if needed

I think most of it should just have your "mitts" on video!!!
Seriously
close-ups of the work area, tools being used etc. Opel Dean's doesn't even show faces that i recall. Your expertise in invaluable and having this on video or DVD would reduce the number of times you get asked the same question over and over. Please consider this. You have been a trememdous resource to the Opel community and this would document your contribution for a long time. I for one would gladly pay for a copy. It would be far cheaper than airfare to the east coast

Although the tech seminar had to be cancelled, is there any interest in just a casual get-together in the northeast? You know, meet at a restaurant, talk cars, have a few drinks and some food.

The Zippo Grand Prix at watkins glen NY is coming up later this month, I'll get the exact dates later. Historic watkins glen raceway, car show on one day (was about a 250 car turn out last year), And the chance to see about 100 vintage racecars on and off the track, it's also a large swap meet and memoribilia oriented gathering.

*9-9-05 to 9-11-05 it's this weekend so that is most likely out.

Bob,
I would be interested in getting together. What did you have in mind? I like the idea of meeting at The Glen for the vintage races but I realize it's very short notice for everyone.

The only problem with meeting during a vintage race is that most will want to actually watch the races and peruse the paddock for the day. Having just attended the vintage races at Limerock this weekend, I concluded first-hand that a race setting would be too distracting to hold an effective meet.
