Photo sizes, etc.

Gary,

What is the size restriction for photos in Opel garage (600X 600 pixels like usual?)

Also, If we add cars at different times do they automatically show up together in the garage under our user name or do we need to add them all at once?

Thanks,

Vickie

200k max. They are automatically resized.

You can add/edit at any time via the UserCP.

I have been waiting over a year and a half for this Mod to be released! It is similar to the photo gallery but this one runs right from the vBulletin member base and it is much easier to modify.

After resizing my pics three times, I finally got the "before" pics of my GT loaded in the garage. For those who may have had trouble loading theirs, I used PhotoShop 6 and adjusted the image size to 4" X 3" or 288 X 213 pixels to get down to the acceptable size of below 200K, mine are 183K. Any photo program should be able to get pics down to the acceptable size using the above size parameters. HTH.

Ron, I use Corel Photo Paint and save my pictures with a 42% compression. I post 640x480 pixels and 9"x7" with 72 dpi and they are only 60 K in size. With a 300K limit to post pictures within a thread, I get 5 pictures in.

You might want to check and see if PhotoShop has a compression setting.

here is an example

That works just spiffy when you attach photos to the threads, but for some reason it doesn't work in the Opel Garage. When I attach pics to the threads, I just adjust the image size to 600 pixels and they upload no problem. But that size doesn't work in the Garage, it's just too big in file size. Must be the way I twitch my nose or someting.

I had some trouble with that too and went to the usual 640/480 size and it seemed to work just fine. I'm no computer whiz by any means, the whole thing frustrates me severely at times but somehow I get by...

I just put a photo editor program called IrfanView in the downloads. It is a free, easy to use photo editor that will allow you to optimize and resize your photos prior to uploading. You can also crop the pic to cut out a lot of the background. It gives you the file size in the lower right or the edit screen.

Here's the link: http://www.opelgt.com/sdownload/fileinfo.php?id=24

Ron - Most of your garage photos are showing up as 14k.

Paint Shop Pro, used to be JASC Software, now Corel, is my personal Graphics Weapon of choice. Never found anything that I can't make it do. Of course if we're talking a truly graphic art creation program, then nothing holds a candle to Painter, WITH a pressure sensitive tablet though, used to be Ray Dream, but is now also Corel.

That said, I guess I'll have to go see what all the "Garage" noise is all about!

Gary, that is kinda wierd, in PhotoShop, when I finished resizing this last time, it showed the pic file size and the pixel sizes as I put in the thread. The thumbnails are just a tad over 2K in the garage and the full size are as you said. I give up. I'm just glad I got the before pics in there, finally. :o

Ron, I have found that many programs report a file size that is much larger than when it is saved. The best way to check a file size is to browse to it in windows, either use My Computer, My Documents or Explorer, and then right click the file name and select properties. That is a more a accurate method to know what size you are uploading.

Hope that helps

Yep, that's how I knew which number to put in the pixels window in PhotoShop after I got my first pics rejected trying to attach the pics in threads many months ago. Things have gotten a lot easier to do on computers than they used to be with the Commodore 64s.

Come on, guys, put a photo in there, even if it has to be an "in progress" shot like mine! Pictures are the best part! We are already seeing some beautiful cars in there, but the projects are good inspiration.
