It's 8am, 75* with 55% humidity, coffee cup is full, and I'm all packed. Rather than plow through Philly and save 1/2 hour, I'm going to skirt north of it and it'll be about a 3 hour drive.

      See you there!

Wheels on trailer need to be painted yellow.

Arrived to Shippensburg (20 miles from Carlisle) and settled in excellent Shippens Place hotel. I took Hwy 219 across Allegheny mountain which was very nice drive but occasionally slow due to traffic, so it took me almost 10 hours to cover 470 miles of twisty road. GT performed fine despite 33C (91F) heat. It is covered with bugs and road dust, so it will need good wash tomorrow before driving to Carlisle.
Old racers never die. They just go bench racing.

If you drove the twisty roads in correct speed, the bugs most be more on the side of the "Timemachine"

Thank you all for voting me the "Most Unique" award!

I had a rough time this show, my back went out BADLY early in the morning after trying to sleep on the worst mattress I've ever been on and hotel room AC that was stuck at 60*, plus a little sun burn. Thank you to those of you who provided me with heating pads and Advil. After 4-5 hours the drugs kicked in enough for my spirits to perk up and I was able to do my usual trenchcoat Red Baron act and have a little fun. I wasn't going to risk another night on a bad bed, so I abruptly left at 9pm and drove home. My apologies for no goodbyes. 3 hours of driving and when I was just 3 miles from home the engine started acting up(probably a collapsed lifter or a worked loose rocker nut) on a major highway in the bad part of town. I had to take the Ride of Shame home on a flatbed tow truck with the GTX and the trailer on it. I got home a half hour after midnight.

I'm sick of this fluffin' engine. It's got a warped head and I've got chocolate pudding in my anti-freeze. I ain't driving it again until I get a fully rebuilt head and maybe the block, too.

Hey Gordo.. sorry to hear that.. I think you said something about .. you were having Pain in your back.
We were wondering where you went Saturday night? Sorry to hear about your engine failure problems.... It seems that your not the only one that had Engine troubles this weekend...
I hate to Say ... I too had problems reaching home... But with my Blue Devil GT ... my Good and Bad Luck seem to prevail... I was following Jeff home... and before we left I heard some rattle noises.. payed no mind as the car was running good, and got on the road.
after some High speed chasing down Jeff's car... my Exhaust Head pipe came loose and was very loud head pipe held on with one bolt.. 1 out of six took a hike / the GT had no power

But where I pulled off the road on 209 north was a Perfect spot there is a Gift shop there..and behind was a old Auto repair shop w/ a biker dude... do you want to talk about luck... he let me use he's small outside lift gave me (6) 8mm Allen bolts. Let me use all his tools to make the repair re-connect head pipe myself
and then He refused to take any money/ Cash..He was just Glad to help me out. You just don't find that many people theses days ..like that... That's pure Luck.. then we got back onto the road Jeff and I made it home safe and sound
My Luck is always changing never know
also forgot Jeff's Son and Girl friend in there BMW were all part of our caravan ( two GT and a BMW)

It was good to see all my Opel friends Again... Thank You All that Voted for my Silver/Blue GT for Best GT ..that means a lot to me coming from the Opel Community... Thank you
I hope everybody got home safe and sound ,,, see you all next year

Myself, Terry, Clyde and Chuck got back to North Carolina around 5:15 this evening. I started having a problem with my red GT about 30 minutes from home as the throw out bearing started acting up. But I'm grateful that I didn't have the problems some of you guys had!

Great seeing everyone again and hope everyone gets home safely!

I made it back without any real issues. There was one Opel Gordo missed, and it was a sweet one over in the vendor field. Picture attached. Anytime I haul this big trailer I have a tire go down, must have replaced the 6th time...and with new tires. Saw a bulge in the side wall so I always carry two spares, and five minutes later I was back on the road. I enjoyed being a vendor, and now know what to do and not to do. Next year I will hire me some help, so I can get around and be with the group too. I felt I missed out a bit on that, as not everyone gets a chance to get over to the vendor field.

Not being over there at the show field is what really surprised me about receiving the Tom Cavataio Spirit Award. Out of sight out of mind. I am very humbled to receive this award and I thank everyone for considering me for that honor.

I left Saturday night but sleep caught up with me in West Virginia and I slept about 6 hours I guess, then I went a bit into Virginia and slept for about her hour or two. I guess all I saved was hotel room money, because about 50 miles to Tennessee, I got behind Edwin. I'm still not sure if he knew it was me or not, but it was raining so he probably said to himself that he was going to keep on trucking.

Here are a couple pictures of my setup, can't say I really roughed it out there, but had my electric pellet smoker and ran it all night off a battery so I could have some fresh pulled pork sandwiches for lunch. And everyone else in a block radius.

Another awesome Carlisle show in the books! Many many thanks to those who work every year to put this on. The Kirbys, Gary, Charles, and everyone else who volunteered their time and money to make this show a success, THANK YOU!

Gabe and I made it back home around 6 to my house, about an hour after we expected to. Our GPS's kept taking us in circles just a few miles from the hotel wasting about an hour. Fortunately for us the car ran great, no issues at all. Look forward to seeing some of you at Rt. 66 and possibly the Nationals. We shall see how my work schedule looks when that date get closer.

      David~
