Wind storm took out power today at my shop earlier in the afternoon so I called it a day and went home. Inline voltage was high... at close to 250v which the machine can not use so I am going to talk to the power company Monday to make sure that is normal and whether or not they can reduce it.

I have a 1980's vertical mill based CNC that has a Fanuc 6M-B controller on it. Like you said it's a great controller. Still making parts with the machine. I have 6 different older controllers to program and work with, 4 mills and 2 lathes. Gets to be a pain remembering all the little differences! Going to make RallyBob some parts this week on the Haas. The chick vise I have has these really slick machinable jaws so I'll be using them to make a "fixture" for the stainless steel flanges so I do the machining more efficiently.

Kurt is like a Chick, only stronger. Chicks are real light and versitile but don't expect a chick to hold 100lbs of iron. Chick is the brand name of a major vise and workholding manufacturer. Kurt vises everyone shoud be familiar with.

I also learned from my intelligent question about Kurt and Chick vises but you on the other hand were thinking about your own vices. ![]() Harold |

Hi All,
I hope I'm not "stepping" on this thread, but it seems like all of the flanges have probably been delivered by now. If any one wants more flanges, I have some. (Not these, but flanges I had made up about 8 months ago.) There's a picture in the clasifieds... or you can go to my web site: tgsi.com |

I don't think anybody's have been delivered. Problems with the mill and such. Any updates?

Anyway yes! Update transformers are installed. I am heading up there tonight to verify that everything is working properly and then it is just a matter of facing the mild steel flanges down to the correct thickness. I'll be working on it all day Sunday so we should be ready to roll shortly. The clutch studs I mentioned before are all roughed out, I just need to thread them.

Update: Power issues have been resolved! The last part a replacement hydraulic soleniod switch shipped to me on friday via UPS so I expect it to be here early this week. I'll be back at the shop today after work getting things prepped for making chips. Things are finally moving along.

The machine wasn't happy until I got the replacement soleniod installed. Everything on the electrics side now seems good to go. The machine won't actually move with out an air compressor hooked up which we are transporting up there tonight.

err I reread this and I guess it doesn't really fill you in on what is going on.
The machine moves, powers up, etc etc. I'm reassembling the z-axis coupling I had to repair tonight. Once that is done I can cut the clamping I am making and bolt the fixturing to the table (probably wednesday evening) and cut the flanges down to spec. My goal is to have all of them surfaced before this Sunday so I can start on cutting the SS flanges.

Makin progress. Ship date for everyone who has already paid for the mild steel flanges will be no later than 6/8. The SS are going to take a bit longer so I don't have an exact date yet on when I'll have them done but sometime in the next week or two.
Had a ball joint lock nut fail the other day in my wifes car… not pretty but at least no one was hurt. It's been a hectic past month.

Gumby as you offered in a PM to me some months ago, please "refund my money until they are ready to ship". The delay has been too much for too long. Thanks and looking forward to the refund.
I am still waiting to hear from you!

A looooong time ago I offered to have these made on a waterjet machine which could be done in either steel or stainless. I am not suggesting that I have the time to be involved now but I could turn you all on to the vendor that can do it if you so desire. I have the AutoCad drawing that I made which was used for the original quote.

I live in west central PA, and I've found machine work in this area to be very reasonable compared to other parts of the country (and even other parts of PA). There are a couple of water jet places near me that I could get quotes, if anyone is interested. I would imagine the price would be very competitive with anyone else, at least if my previous experience is any indication. The catch is that they need a .DXF file for the part. If anyone has the .DXF file they could email me, shoot me a PM and I'll get the ball rolling with some quotes. If there's adequate interest, I'd be willing to have a run of them made.
