Unanswered: cam timing clarification

Howdy folks,
Needing a little guidance here as far as cam timing.
Cam in question is cam techniques, f306/290/6.
4* advance built in
C/L for intake is 102*
Seein' as how I need the exercise, I used the flywheel
method of degreeing. (up, down, up, down) good for the
abs.
At 2.5* per tooth, 40 teeth gives me 102*.
That is exactly what I got on the flywheel at the c/l point.
Question is: ...the 4* advance? Is that what put the
c/l at 102*? Or should the 4* be added to the 102*.
Otherwise all is happening right when it should be.
Thanks,
Don.

Hmmm ...

Good question - the usual way to grind a cam with 4 degrees advance would be to shift the whole profile with respect to the cam dowel. So if you install that cam 'straight up' the specs would measure out at 4 degrees advanced - i.e. early.

Once the cam is installed then the centre line should be at 98 degrees by measurement - I would think.

Best ask Cam Techniques to be sure! They may have factored the advance into the actual installed position ....

Take that 2.5* per tooth figure one decimal further, OK? Call it 2.57*. See if that makes a little difference.

Thats a great street cam

You'll also need a compression ratio around the 10.5:1 to make it work.

I just called Cam Techniques Friday....they're closed until the 26th of June, so you'll have to wait.
