Unanswered: Alternative fuel "Butanol"

I'm not sure about where to post this tread.
Could this fuel be a stepping stone before Hydrogen?
It looks to be kind of safe close to gasoline.
Nice octane rating of 100... BAD flashpoint of 95 F.
DuPont seems to interested in this fuel.

Coal !!

As oil supplies get tighter it is more likely that the coal gas industry will see a revival - not only produces coal gas but lots of useful by-products which can be used as replacement feed stocks for the Retro-chemical industries.

Until the 1970's most cities here had a coal gas company with reticulated gas through the city streets.

In the United Kingdom, the word benzole means a coal-tar product, consisting mainly of benzene and toluene. It was formerly mixed with petrol and sold as a motor fuel under the trade name National Benzole Mixture.

That is where the name used for petrol in the British Commonwealth, 'Benzene', came from.

Garage
And then there is natural gas which in colorado is in the $1.50 / Gal price range. And you can fill it from your House how convienent would that be, althought the equipment to fill at your house is about 3k to 4k.

this was a reasonable alternitive back in the 80's that has been forgotten for the most part. and its not as difficult a conversion as hybrid or electric.
