Unanswered: Finally got my GT back (Need turbo sugestions)

I just got my Gt back from the shop yesterday, and I have been driving it like crazy, it is really fun but I feel like I need more power than the 1.9 is giving me. I would very much like to put a turbo or a super charger on this car but I am not aware of what kind of a device is made for the opel. I have searched the forum, and I have not found any info as to if there is a turbo or super that can be used with the 1.9 that is bolt on with very little or no major modifications needed. If anyone knows of any thing that can be added like what I have mentioned could you please let me know.
Thanks
Sterling

There is no kit to add either a turbocharger or supercharger to an Opel. Both are very difficult to make work with a carb, and both are expensive. Further complicating matters is the very limited space in the engine bay to mount either.

It is possible to add one or the other, but there have only been a few completed cars modified this way and they were either very expensive or not very reliable.

There are options for increasing the performance of an Opel motor without forced induction, but the big performance enhancements almost always require an engine rebuild with new pistons and porting work to the head and intake. That level of work is also very expensive.

Turbo kits were offered by Opel parts places like Mantapart and More Opel but are no doubt very rare today. You can see the kits offered by looking through the old catalog pages I've placed in my "Aardvaark" album. I don't recall which outfits offered them but know at least one is shown.
I seem recall at least one of these old systems being sold on ebay last year.

The fatal flaw in your original post is "is bolt on with very little or no major modifications needed" because with a supercharger you'll need custom mounts and pullies made at the very least and with a turbo you'll need a custom turbo manifold.

If you are serious about either going with a blower or turbo then I highly recommend you look into switching to EFI. There are carbs that are built specifically for supercharged applications. The downside to one of these carbs is that they are usually designed for big blocks... and just as expensive as getting a complete EFI system from OGTS.

Best of luck in what ever you decide to do with your GT!

i've come across this recently. Its a page of the steinmetz catalog of 1970. Apparently, they had a turbo kit providing between 130 and 160 HP for the street versions and 250 for the race version.

they recommend their sport suspension and brakes for the turbo kit but that would be quite logical

the steinmetz catalogs of 1970-1973 can be found at Motorsport- und Tuning-Kataloge der frühen Siebziger (in german)

the website has some more very interesting sections about heads (like the steinmetz 16 valve cross-flow CIH head) and the ported head (with measures and tolerances for grinding)
found here: Motorspoert der Sechziger und Siebziger
