Unanswered: Dry sump pictures/info

Hi all

Me again!!!!! Any one got pictures of dry sump set upsand how to plumb up. Never seen a setup up close so don't know where to start with this. Understand basically how it works but would like to know the best way to mod the CIH to this system.

If its not that easy (maybe that should be too costly!!!), would like to fit a crank scraper, but never seen one of those either!!!!

Please enlighten me

Thanks

Chris

There was a lot of talk about Crank Scrapers in this thread.

Kevin Johnson was making them and probably has pics if noone else does. I wouldn't doubt that Bob has a pic.

This may help.
CAE Shifting Technology
Some decent pics, and it is on an Opel CIH.

Looking at the components used, I think they are sourcing them from the UK from Pace Products.

I did in fact recently purchase a number of crank scrapers from Kevin Johnson (crank-scrapers.com), two of them for 2.4 Opel engines and another for a custom long-rod 2.2 block.

HTH,
Bob

Thanks for the replys guys.

Bob did you go for the teflon or steel scrapers? Also does the sump on the dry sump system sit as close to the crank as possible and literally "pool" the oil for scavenging by the pump? Was thinking of manufacturing my own, possibly machining from an ally billet.

Also investing in CAT CAMS roller rockers. How do these compare to your design?

These will be matched to a Rallycross spec cam from CAT CAMS, lightweight spring retainers, dual valve springs, etc. They reckon they have sold around 2000 sets and had maybe 1 or 2 minor problems.

Your views would be most welcome

Thanks

Chris

That looked like the beginning of a very nice setup Bob just linked us to.
It didn't show the whole system though, I'm guessing the third stage of the pump will supply pressure to the oil main, hopefully bypassing the stock pump.
Pretty cool stuff! The ultimate in serious oil control!

Yes, the pan can fit close to the crank. No, oil does not pool in the pan. It is more of an oil mist which is being literally vacuumed out of the pan at (in the one just shown) two locations, each location having it's own pump. The air/oil mist is pumped to a reservoir, where the two can separate, the bottom of this reservoir becomes the sump. From there the oil is plumbed back to the pump's third stage. Pretty simple, huh?

Oil control on the cheap
Increase the oil pan volume from 4 to 5 quarts..cost oh 75 greenbacks US.
Crank scraper Was it 35 greenbacks?
Dry sump the pump alone is around 350 bucks. Then you'll need fittings, lines, pulley's both pump and crank, fittings, lines, custom tanks, belt,
cost of modifying the pan, mounting brackets again custom .
Simple yes but its hard on the wallet.
