Thanks for the info Gene. I would love to make this but will be out of town visiting family for the holidays. The 27th of December is also my son's birthday. So, I'll have to try for next year when I should be in town and his birthday won't be on the last Saturday of the year (just noticed that Nationals 2009 is on my daughter's birthday! Whats going on here...?
- good thing I don't have any more kids ).Matt

That's correct. I talked to George Forester of the GTA group and the Polar Bear Run this year is from Outbacks Steak House on Hwy 78, just as you pass Stone Mountain and out to Athens. But, they're not going straight out Hwy 78, they're taking back roads that will take in some covered bridges . That is the theme for this year. I think they have got a pro photographer to take pics at the bridge sites, so, for those who are in the area, it's not a "race", you drive at your pace. You can bring anything to drive, but, it's a last chance to bring out the the beauty in your garage. There's lunch at a 1/2 way point and finishing up in Athens. From there, you're on your own.

BUMP BUMP;
This is coming up a week from Saturday, here are the details: Saturday, December 27th 9th Annual Polar Bear Run ATTENTION POLAR BEARS: The Georgia Triumph Association is pleased to announce Polar Bear Run IX Saturday, December 27, 2008 This year’s destination is the Classic City: Athens, GA Meet at the Outback parking lot near Stone Mountain East Park Place Blvd at the east end of the Stone Mountain Freeway (US 78) Drivers’ Meeting at 9:00 AM Come visit the shops, restaurants, pubs, and home of the UGA Bulldogs. Visit the many cultural attractions that are available, or just relax and enjoy the scenery. The downtown area will be decorated for the holidays and everyone will be happy to see us. The spirit of our event is to encourage all sports and classic motoring enthusiasts to meet for a scenic drive and share some fun on the last weekend of the year. Everyone is welcome to participate with your most interesting auto – or bring the family in the minivan. The drive is a leisurely tour. All cars will receive a set of detailed directions, so that nobody gets lost or left behind. Stops will be provided along the way. Atlanta area residents will have the opportunity to participate fully and be home before dark. Out-of-towners have made the Polar Bear Run a weekend travel destination. There are a number of motels in the Stone Mountain area for Friday night (including a Holiday Inn Express within walking distance of the starting point). Athens has a large number of rooms available to allow an extended visit to this great city. Mark your calendars for December 27 and don’t miss the largest winter driving event in the Southeast. The event takes place rain or shine.

I hate to miss it again, but it would just be too much driving involved.

Well, those in the south eastern US, especially around the Atlanta, GA area, missed a real treat today. The 9th annual Polar Bear Run was done today, and I must say, there was an excellent and deversified field of cars today. I'm putting this on the Opel site as I was the only "true" Opel that showed. There were at least 3 Solstaces there, but, being as it was being run by the GA Triumph guys, mosty British cars showed, but, what a showing!
We also had two Corvettes, a fairly new C5, and a gorgious wht 66(?) convertible. There were scores of Miatas, TR6s, a TR7, and several Minis, both old and new, RHD and LHD, and even a Clubman Wagon! Buick was represented by a Grand National, and several Porsches were present, a 76 Turbo 911, and a Martini Replica. Alfas were there two as well as a couple of Austin Healeys. We even had a Hillman Convertible and an Allaird. Sprinkled in were Fieros, a Fiat X 1/9 and Jag XKE The run was about 130 miles through the back country of eastern GA, through towns like, Rutledge, Comer and such, and across a couple of wooden bridges, which was the theme. The only hitch I saw was one of the Healeys stalled and we had to push start it as it had a postive ground system and could not be jumped by most of the cars there. The driver's meeting was done to explain the directions and then everyone was off to do the run at their own pace. I had a co-pilot in Rick Kamen, who puts on our local Orphan Car Show in Snellville. He and I mostly just stayed in the various "packs" and followed along, the Sportwagon did the Opels proud, in that it did the run without a mishap, but, I offered my jumper cables as assistance to the stalled Austin. Although it was cloudy all day, it didn't rain, and warmed up to just over 60 degrees. This was absolute fun, and I look forward to hopefully doing it next year. I have attached some pics of the various cars that were there. Enjoy

I though it was tomorrow so I trailered one of my toys up from Florida today.
Back to the warehouse it goes until the next event. I guess day late, dollar short comes to mind.

!?! Man, I really want to make this some year but the 26th of December at 9am is a pretty bad choice IMHO. Technically I am available but it may come down to whether or not I feel like rolling out of bed at 6am the day after Xmas to make the drive to Roswell.
