RallyBob will become famous soon enough
I've barely looked at my wagon since last fall, so I won't be making it to any meets this year. Too much to do.

Time is passing by quickly. Had a meeting with the event organizers and I think we may be parked across from the Lincoln Presidential Library this year which is where Kevin, Curtiss and I parked last year on Sunday. They are giving us Awards for Best GT, Best Manta/Ascona, Best Kadett, and Best Opel in both Stock and Modified Classes. I am also having a Longest Drive in Opel, Best Pre-1965 Opel, and Peoples Choice awards made. Does anyone have any others they think we may need? I did not hear much back on the idea of Eric Schmidt bringing some stuff to work on so thats on the back burner. The Idea of Vickie giving Cha Cha a ride also did not seem to set the local folks on fire. From what I am hearing we are getting short on rooms at the Hotel so if you think you may want one call soon. I did get us set up for Saturday night dinner at Top Cats Chill and Grill 1822 Adlai Stevenson Dr. I would like for us to do a Judging for all the awards except Peoples Choice and Longest Drive. If you think you could be a judge please let me know. Since I do not plan to have my GT in the competition I can be one but I would like to have three or four more. Also a quick thought on what is Stock or Modified. I would think stock could have no more than 5 aftermarket changes and none of those would be Body Mods. This would allow Carbs, Wheels, Ignitions,Etc.

Roomate needed

Hey all: I tried to get a room at the Route 66 Motel, but they were all out! Anyway, if anyone is giving theirs up, or wants a clean non-smelly roomate for the 28th and 29th, give me a hollar. Anyone know of nearby places to stay? Thanks.

Rooms

After reading the post from Mitch I went by the Hotel to see if it was booked up, and yes it is. The bright side is we have at least 30 folks coming to the event. There is still a possibility that more rooms can open up. Another group has not used all of theirs and they will come open two weeks prior to the event. So do put your name on the waiting list. I also went by the old Motel we used and they do have rooms. The Baymont Inn is a nice place and the only reason we left there was lack of meeting space. It is at 5871 So. Sixth St. right off of I55 at exit 90, and is a straight shot to the club hotel and the event. Phone # is (217-529-6655) or (1 877 229-6668). Be sure and mention you are part of the Route 66 Mother Road Fest and the room rate is 66 dollars plus tax. There are also a Travel lodge and Super 8 Motel on So Sixth but I don't know much about them. I would book a room at one of these and then if the Rt.66 Hotel opens up cancel it.
John

That is probably a good thing, John, since the car is still sitting since Carlisle. New fans are on, but we have had no time to test.

Well we are about a month out and it looks like we are going to have a well attended event. It would sure be nice if one of the folks out east could drag RallyBob out with them. I am sure Opel or not some folks at the event would love to talk with him. I met with the event organizers last night and have confirmation on the awards they are to supply and So Far we are still to be parked at the north end of Sixth St. which should be a more visible location. I also got the other awards I ordered today and will attach jpg of them. Lets just now hope for cool dry weather.

weather

Dry is good, whether it's cool or hot. Let's just hope there are no tornado watches like last year!

See you there,

Just wanted to remind everyone to pre-register for the event. It's cheaper and it makes it a little easier to get everyone in and parked together. Also I talked with Gil at Opel Gt Source today and he said he would be in early on Friday the 28th and was bringing some goodies.

Questions

This will be my first time to this event. My wife and I are looking forward to it. I looked throught this thread and sure I missed it, but what is our schedual? When and where are we meeting to make the road trip? Do you think I will be ok weather wise? I don't have a top but I do have a car cover that works well if needed. Do the cars have to stay outside or can I put mine in the trailer each night?

Just as a side note... I have a 25ft enclosed trailer. It makes for a good "Tent" for standing around or putting up a table inside or just to store things overnight. It has OPEL in big letters and a couple pics of my car. Just let me know. I will have plenty room for the car to be put up at night too.

Dallas we will drive back to the hotel each night. You can park in the roped off hotel parking lot either inside your trailer or outside your trailer. We do not leave the cars downtown at the show site each nite.

The Kadett, the parts, and most everything is done. I WILL BE THERE.. !!

Checked my Reservation though and they didnt have it on record. I am sure I reserved a room already though.. anyway, I have a room for the 28th, but not one for the 29th. If ANYONE Is cancelling PLEASE Let me know.. I am trying to convince my wife to come.. and who knows after some 13+ years, she may finally come and meet some other Opel widows.

But she wants to fly in on saturday instead of driving in..

Parts

Not to hijack a thread but I have parted out three GTs and one 1900 wagon and could bring parts to Springfield if anyone is in need of parts. I am going to sell or ebay lots of parts of which I have more than I will ever need. I cant keep it all so many have to go. I will be inventorying and putting a list in classifieds later today. But delivery is free to Springfield.
