Robbie, I won't be making this meet unfortunately. Canada and I don't have a very good track record as last time I went I was denied entry and when explained the reason to the US feds they almost did not let me (and my friends) back in. This picture explains the Canuck's decision; I needn't say anymore.

I'll be checking the GT over tomorrow. It hasn't been out since Carlisle. I still have the 2.2 head sitting on the passenger floor. I guess I need to replace that with a case of PA beer of some kind to bring along. Plus I'll need room for a case of Steam Whistle to go back with me.
See you on Sunday, ~ Tom |

We still plan to meet Tom in Erie and Drive up Sunday morning. We have hotel reservations at the Days Inn you suggested for Sunday night.
We are probably just bringing one car, the Manta, for this weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Vickie & Allen Last edited by saxybiker; 06-21-2007 at 11:27 PM.. |

Vickie & Allen,
Looking forward to seeing you guys again, probably a good move to stay the night...there may be alcohol involved in the days proceedings. I'll make sure there is parking at the front for your Manta and Tom's GT. Drive safe, see you Sunday... ![]() (416) 893 7414 if you run into any difficulties... |

What a day!
Perfect weather, lots of cold beer, good friends and a street full of Opels... ![]() Thanks to everyone who made the effort to attend, I thoroughly enjoyed hosting the BBQ, and it will definately be an annual event from now on. I got busy and didn't take any pics, but Derek and Lynda did, so I will put a few in my gallery to give everone else an idea of our day... |

Great Time!
Rob:
Thanks! We had a great time. Beautiful weather, chatting with old Opel friends and meeting several new ones. We drove the Manta the 700 mile round trip and it performed flawlessly--even with the long waits in traffic and at customs. You are all welcome to come down to our Annual Summer Opel gathering in August! Vickie & Allen |

A Great Day!
Hey All, I just wanted to add my voice to the choir here and thank Rob for being the gracious host. It was nice to meet some of the other folks from the region that are afflicted with our condition.
Next I'll have the orange GT there...mark my words!! That'd make a quartet of fireglow GTs...I think we decided we'd call the event campfireglow? Looking forward to it! Tom, I'm still thinking about that front spring...when did you say you'd be in the area?? Be well all...I have to get back to work... ![]() Mike |

Thanks Rob,
I also had a great time again. A much bigger turn out this year. Once I swapped out the dead battery in the GT Sunday morning & bungee corded in the oversize one from my truck, the GT ran great both up & back. Caravaning with the Gages in their Manta, we had plenty of curious stares & even had a few pictures taken as cars drove past. The food was great, plenty of beer & even some Birthday cake. Just seeing Rob's collection of rare Opels is worth the drive. The hotel was very nice & the weather both days was perfect. The drive back to the States was nice other than the treasure hunt to find a Beer Store that had some Steam Whistle in stock. After 4 stops we were finally loaded up (the cars, not us) & ready to cross the border. The customs officer (young kid) asked if the GT was 280z or something. I gave him a brief Opel history lesson & passed right through. Once back in Erie,PA we stopped at another Opelers house for a while. I had a few other things to do while in Erie, so I didn't get in until 11pm last night. I'm looking forward to next years BBQ already. Thanks again, ~ Tom Last edited by tekenaar; 06-27-2007 at 07:59 PM.. |

I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves, I had a blast hosting the event. Hopefully the BBQ will grow and improve each year...
Good to hear you had a smooth run home Tom...got to plan for the Steamwhistle Brewery tour next year... Thanks again to everyone who made the effort to come out...it's the people who make the day... Rob. |
