Deutsche Classic July 14, Reading PA

I'm starting this thread to gauge interest in getting a gang to go to this event in July. Many of you at Carlisle received flyers. As I told some of you, I went to this one-day show last year. While it was a good field of about 140-150 very nice German cars, mine was the only Opel! Some of you have expressed interest in creating a showing for our fine automobiles at this event, so weigh in if you'd like to go. It's an easy shot from Philly, New Jersey and New York, a little longer from Pittsburgh, right between Reading and Kutztown. Thomas and Manta Mitch could get up pretty quick from MD also. (There's a chicken dinner in it for you with your registration.) There's also goofy stuff like a tire toss and a "ladies in jeans" contest (just fun, not what you might expect).

Here is a link to the event page: Deutsche Classic | Mid Atlantic's Premier All-German Automotive Event

You can see what was there from the picture page, including my car, which unfortunately was grouped with micros/minis due to the fact it was the only Opel. Should we show them the cooler side of German cars?

Jim

Us Georgians thought that it was interesting that they mentioned Messermitt and Gogomobile but not Opel in their flyer. But it still looks like an interesting show.

I spoke to Fred Baker who was handing out flyers at Carlisle and he's excited to hear we'll have some cars at the show. He doesn't have any, but he said if we could throw together some parts/logos he'd try to get a Best Opel plaque made for the show. Said he could pay a little for the parts even.

Thought it was time to give this a bump. One week from Saturday near Reading, PA. So far it looks like we'll have about four Opels if we can talk Duane into bringing his wagon out... That would make for a good mix of types.

I talked to Fred again and there will be one award for Best Opel. It was really nice of him to go to the trouble, and he'll do whatever he can to make Opelers welcome, he said. A good guy.

Hey Jim:
Thanks for calling yesterday. Yes, I'm still planning to make it - just not sure if there will be anyone with me. Registration takes place the day of the show, correct ? I'll be talking to you guys to coordinate.

Jim,

I had planned on bringing the GT to the show. I even called my brother in Harrisburg to to see if he would be around that weekend so I could stay there. His reply was " You're supposed be here, it's your nieces first birthday party that Saturday." So I'll be in the area, I just can't make the show.

Jim:
I just talked to Adam - he will be joining us for the "Classic"
Is the showfield shaded, or do they allow canopies to be erected behind the cars ? If so, maybe Duane would provide transport for my fold-up gazebo in the wagon. I think my car will be full of .... me and Adam and not much else. I've had that car since 1980 and I still haven't found the trunk.

Rick,
Excellent to hear Adam will be joining us. Tom, sorry you can't make it. A couple more Opels will give us a foothold in the show though, GTs will draw a lot of attention I think.

The field has several rows of trees. While some cars parked in the sun, the majority were shaded pretty or very well.

Looks like day of show car registration is $25, seems a bit high, but comes with a chicken dinner. Here are the details. http://www.deutscheclassic.com/downl...007Regform.pdf

Hi Jim:
I've been trying to open the link to the registration form with no success.
I also tried to access it via the show's website, but it won't open either.

Works fine for me, not sure what's up your end.

Six days left, we could use a couple more cars! C'mon Opelers...

Rick;

I linked right to it. Maybe something is clogged in your end I hear these things happen when you turn 50.

PM me your e-mail address and I will see if I can send the pdf file.

Soooooo ............. who is coming out for this fine show ? What time should we meet, so we can all park together ? I'm sure I won't be making it right at 8:00am when the gates open, but how does 9:00 or so sound to everyone ?

I'm still coming as of now, weather looks favorable for Saturday (84 deg and sunny). Should be a nice drive from Harrisburg area.
I will try to get there at 8AM.
If I know how many spots to reserve I'll do my best.
I will have my cell phone along so just give me a call when you get close.

Roger

PS. It is my first time to this event, directions look pretty straight forward though.
If I am correct....just show up and pay $25 Show fee at the gate correct?

From the posts, it looks like there will be 2 GT's, a Manta, and a Kadett Wagon. Sounds like a nice showing with most models represented. Enjoy and have a beer for me.
