So it's true ya'll are going to set up a 1/4 mile track and a slalom course for each of us to test and compare the newer "GT/Solstice" to the newly redone classic GT. Matt, you are too cool! I can bring an extra clutch disc just in case we need it.

detailed information?

Keith,

what is the schedule for the day? The "Georgians" want to go up in a little convoy, and need to know when to show up and where exactly to go.

A written or posted agenda would be nice.

Has everyone weighed in as to who is coming and how many are bringing a car(s) for dynoing? Are you just curious about hp/torque or are you planning on trying to tune the car also? I know of two that I plan on trying to tune using the dyno, a B'ham car and one from Nashville.

We have an obligation Friday the 28th we can't get out of so we plan to get up bright and early and be on the road by 6:00am Saturday morning to arrive between 10:00am and 10:30am. Is anyone else from Georgia on this schedule?

I want to put both the GT and Solstice on the Dyno. If adjustments can be made to the GT, I hope to do that. With the Solstice, I'm just curious as to what kind of rear wheel HP I'm getting with the couple mods I've done.

Matt

Matt;
There looks to be me and Dieter and maybe Tony, if the deal with the Manta is settled by then. But, I was looking at the same schedule, roughly 5-6am hitting the road up

OK - well maybe we can join up with you. Our exact departure time will just depend on how fast we can get around that morning but we hope for an early start. We can work out more details as it gets closer. We are staying overnight in Cookeville and driving back Sunday.

BTW, if you are planning to stay overnight, the Baymont Inn is nice. We have stayed there in the past and it is clean and convenient. They have rooms for $99.00/night right now.

That's the same schedule I'd thought about. As it looks like, we all will be going back home on Saturday night.

Arrow Bump...

We are down to ten days until the event. I think Keith has a lot of good stuff lined up for people to see and do in addition to the fun of meeting fellow Opel enthusiasts. We can also start monitoring the weather now that we are within the 10-day window. Right now, it looks pretty good - 40% chance of rain with that being "scattered" and a comfortable 83 degrees.

meeting point and time?

Gene, Tony & everybody else going from the GA Opelers,

any suggestion where to meet on I75 northbound, maybe a closed rest area ?

Timewise, to be there at around 10am, we should meet at 7am anywhere north of I285, but I'm flexible if you want to be there earlier or later.

List of stuff going on

I will have some other things going on as well as the dyno that day. A lady needs help with her brakes on a 70 GT, so we will use the lift to diagnose that. I have several new parts for those interested in checking out what will be used on the next car and see the quality. Lots of neat NOS parts and literature as well to enjoy. I cannot wait myself. So far I expect 3 from GA, 2-3 from Nashville area, one Ohio???, I have 4 here already, so at least ten cars to check out. I still need to contact some people to see if they are available, and tie up the loose ends of the GT.

I'll be there with a car. I'll meet you and my uncle anywhere you guys say. I have to work Friday night but I'll get off early and head on up. Too bad Culver's hasn't reached TN yet, but they're getting closer.

Opel Dyno specifics

Today was the first day that we, My father and I, actually worked the dyno at an event. It went well. We had the best luck with cars that had a good tach reading and rear wheel drive, as our wire pickup was acting up. We only will be doing INERTIA runs at the show. Our dyno is equipped with a water brake that will apply a load to the car to test what the car can actually hold as far as hp. Rodney, which type of runs did you alll do during your dyno meet? Most are running three runs each with inertia only. I just want to make sure we compare apples to apples for the most part. Our test vehicle is a 1971 Hemi GTX. We tested against a Dynojet last week and our numbers are deadly close. I want to also inform those who will be running a inertia run to read up on the differences. Matt, your Solstice is rated at a certain horse power from the factory, that measurement is usually from the flywheel. When measured from the rear wheels spinning, one has to account for drivetrain power loss through the tranny, driveline and rear end friction. This accounts for a 12-25% horsepower loss. Now an inertia run will get us close to what it should be at the rear wheels, put an actually if using the water brake, it will show more power. Inertia is being mesured on this unit, by means of how quickly your vehicle can turn these 1500 pound drums (each). They already have a stated inertia pull, which the computer will calculate formulas to figure it out. With the RPM known during that test, HP can be formulated out as well. I'm not the best at explaining it, but there are lots of online tid bits about the differences. Sorry about all the info, just want to clarify it and find out from Rodney on some of his tests and would like to know the results to know if possibly something is calibrated wrong. Remeber free Dyno runs and T-shirts for participants...sorry Opels (and related) only. Sept 29th in Cookeville, TN

Matt, find out what the Solstice is rated at from factory, and see if anyone has got any numbers from an inertia dyno run. That would be helpful as well. It will be nice doing the Opels as they are all set up about the same, we worked all day to Dyno 6 cars, each one took quite a while to find the best way to pick up the rpms...different ignition systems, distributors on race cars, new cars, ect. Its late and I'm wore out-until then

Looking forward to the Dyno results.
Hopefully one of the cars tested will be close to the setup on my GT.
Lets see some pictures!
I am still planning on a Dyno day this Fall at a local shop, so the info will be useful.

I had no idea how much goes into running the dyno on each car. Let's do the Solstice only if time allows after all the Opels get done. I did find an interesting site in which people log their dyno runs (among other stats):

DragTimes.com

Click on the Dyno link at the top and then the make and model you are interested in. I notice the Solstice has several dyno runs logged here. Also, there are database entries for many Opel models but no one has logged a dyno run yet for any of them - we could all log ours here after the show.

BTW, the weather prediction just keeps getting better: Sunny and 82 degrees and the chance of rain is now down to 20%!

Maps...

I am attaching a MS Word file with Keith's written directions included and then two Yahoo! maps. The first map is a high level view of the area with "A" representing our destination. The second map is a more detailed map with many of the streets that Keith indicates we need to turn on being visible. Again, "A" marks the destination.
