Hot August Nights - Reno, NV
I just got back from Hot August Nights, one of the largest classic car shows in the West.
It goes on for 10 days, they have a 5,000 car limit which is usually sold out months before the event. My father-in-law had registered his 62 Chrysler Imperial but couldn't go, so I took his spot, and went up for the day, since it's only about 1 1/2 hours from my house. Anyway, pretty sure my GT was the only Opel. Lots of interest, many questions, and very positive reactions. Here are a few pictures - I put the stock 71 wheels on for the show: |

Very Nice. I like the color.
Wow, an Opel GT @ Hot August Nights. But I guess if the Iron Curtain can be pulled down, it makes sense an Opel can appear at this event. Anyway, I'm glad you got positive comments. One can almost hear those folks in the photos saying, "Hey, cool, an Opel GT. I haven't seen one in decades. Man, my cousin had one. We had a blast in it." |

That's exactly the reaction most people had. Either they had one or know someone who had one.
Amazing how much money most of the heavy metal owners and hot rodders spend just on their paint jobs. My whole car was probably less than half of what a show quality paint job costs... Nice drive over Donner Summit as well. Within an hour it goes from basically sea level to 7,200 feet. Just wish I had a little more power in my 71 automatic, even with the Weber and high comp pistons, these hills are steep. Hey Keith, how are your brakes coming along??? Dieter |

Brake issue was finally resolved Friday night and the GT's back on the road now. |
