Where to stay

This has been up and down for us. Work may not allow us to make trip. Bad news is I was turned down for first requested days off, good news is I asked for the wrong days. Since I have made a lateral move at work I still may not get the time I want. Anyway the big thing is if I can make it where do we stay. Mike says it is close to Stuttgart. When I pull up Travelocity they give me some hotel choices different than what he posted but not bad deals. I have tried to find out where Gil and Dennis are staying but not sure yet. Would be nice to stay somewhere as a group. Next question would be how hard is it to rent a car and drive in Germany.

Gary will become famous soon enough
Looks like I am in the same boat John. I started a new job back in November and the available vacation time is a factor. Plus I just learned that I need to be in New Orleans May 12 - 15 and Carlisle is the 16th. So Germany will not be in my plans this year.

OpelJohn, it is quite easy to rent and drive in Germany. I am sure many of the US renting companies are also in Europe. But I would usually rent InterRent or InterEurope? when I went. Last time was about 6 years ago. First time was 30 years ago. You can drive and Connie can navigate. It worked well for Pat and me. It sounds like a great time, but I cant make it. Good Opeling.

Rental Cars are available at the airport of course. The GT-meeting
is in the next town, some 2 or 3 miles away as stated earlier here.

Car Hire -With Traveljungle you see all prices and suppliers in the blink of an eye!

Car Rental Stuttgart Car Hire Stuttgart Rental Car Stuttgart Airport

As for the hotels: our list concentrates rather on near-by places.
In and around Stuttgart there are maany many more - this is a big city...

Hey George see you and Roy there, Marty is still talking bout it (I think) I think with a help of some friends we can make arrangements for you to crash some where, I am headed out the same time but will stay an extra week like I mentioned a while back when I sent you the first info I had on it. Get with me this weekend and we will see what we can make happen. I have to finish a lighting project, my deadline is the 29th of April, so I have a week of weather delays already, And the boss doesn't think I will get it Done on time, I could if I can get the City of Dallas, TXDOT, NTCOG, and the Electrical engineer to wake up and get out of the way, and "The Friends of KATY Trail" to quit to just answer a few very simple little questions, Typical government job

Opelenvy George,

do you want to be in the GT - movie ?
Although I'll premier a first version of the film at the event, I'll use the opportunity there to film further stuff & interview to put into the final cut.

Now George will be known in Korea and in Germany as a movie star. In Korea as a SAHD (Stay At Home Dad) and in Germany as a standby ( as a pylon in an OPEL GT rallye) in an Opel GT Movie. George can I be the first for your auto graph, Just Kidding

I would love to. Then I would HAVE to buy a copy. As long as I'm not the drunk American guy for comedic relief. Not on tape anyway, my kids will watch the movie.
I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of good Opelers from the site (and around the world).
I'm still trying to figure out how to bring a Getrag and a 2.2 back with me...

Well it looks like Connie and I will make it after all. Tickets are bought and we will arrive Stuttgart on the 8th and leave the 14th. Not sure where we are staying yet. I was wondering if Mike was the one making arrangements for Gil Wesson? I think we may stay at same place but not sure of name. This is our first trip to Europe, should be interesting.

Glad to see there will be other Americans there!
I am going to be heading to Linden to visit with a cousin of mine after the meet. I think I may rent a car and drive to Russelsheim, check out the Opel museum, then head up to Linden from there. Then catch the train back down to fly out of Stuttgart.

No, I'm not into making arrangements right now. I work like 50+ hours a week + plus creating a 24 page magazin, 'wish I had more time... For us here it's quite hectic, we're no more than 5 or 6 guys who work on the event!

I think Gerry Lenk takes care of Gill & his friends. I just had Erhard Schnell on the phone (the designer of the GT) and he told me he looks foward to a visit from Gill.

As I stated earlier, I am there 9-15. I was wanting to go to the Opel Museum in Russelsheim. To anyone who has been there or lives around there, how much time should I devote to this? I am trying to go there and a short visit to Heidelberg in my last couple days. Any advice would be appreciated.

I live in Russelsheim .
There is a museum, ....but all the 300+ vintage Opel vehicles are stored in the centre of the Opel factory.
Its not public.

If you want I can PM you the email address of an Opel guy who (Maybe) make the impossible possible.

Heidelberg is exact in the middle between Stuttgart and Rüsselsheim

I'm leaving sunny and 92 degrees Fahrenheit behind here on Thursday.
Not packing yet, still in the "gotta do laundry" stage.

I am renting a Corsa on Monday and heading North. I contacted the guys at the Opel Factory and they have tours twice a day on production days. I am planning on hitting that next Wednesday.
I still have to do Mothers Day shopping before I go too!
