Actually, I didn't buy it although I now have a healthy investment into it. Sort of inherited it, my dad bought the car from a family friend and had it for several years. He told me if I wanted it to come and get it, so I drove out to SoCal from TN and hauled it back. I had it running but little things started to go wrong with it and when the brakes started locking up I took it off the road for a couple years. When I started having a little more time I tore it down to the shell and started re-doing everything. I'm now putting the newly redone interior in, next is the engine/trans, then work to get it running again.
Like I said, I sort of fell into this british car club. Met some of them, become friends with them and ended up a member. There just isn't enough Opelers around here and the very few that are around aren't interested in regular get together or club participation. This British car club doesn't discriminate on what car you own, many members have other classics besides British. One guy has 3 or 4 Alfa's, a muscle car & one British car. The former club president has VW's, Saabs, MG's and a couple Yugos and operates a European car repair shop. The club treasurer drives a Jag XJ6 w/chevy 350 in it. This British Car Club is one of the most active car clubs in the area. The other active clubs are tuner clubs (One of which I'm sort of active in with my daughter) and the local SCCA/racing club (which I also participated in with my daughter). One of the racer guys around here Rallycrosses a Opel Manta and road races a VW GTI. My recent aquisition is a 63 MG Midget, yes its British but thats not why I got it. Some friends of my daughters had it and was going to junk it, I looked at it and although not a complete car and in need of lots of work, I saw it as salvageable and gave the kid $50 for it. Another classic saved from the crusher.

I plan on rebuilding it (using a parts car I also got) when I finish the GT, then sell the Midget to
help finance the next project (whatever I find a good deal on).

I enjoy rebuilding classic sports cars (any type). I also drive and autocross a Miata (my daughter autocrosses and drives an RX8). My GT won't see autocross (no sway bars) but will be driven to shows.
Come to our show if you can and bring an Opel. We'll even feed you the night before.
