Roy;
Being a true Opeler (cheap, frugal, etc.) I opt for the $69, pay the extra for the conference room and we can bring our own stuff.

I too opt for the $69 room at the Hampton Inn, rent a meeting room so we can bring in our own food and drinks.

I think the Hotel will work with you on the $109 a night. All you would need to tell them is that you are with the OMC (Opel Motorsports Club) and that should work. I haven't reserved a motel yet so I am sure that who ever we go with, they will work with you on the pricing.

From what I am gathering from everyone, most of you would like the $69 a night motel. Please keep in mind that this motel does not have any restaurants near them so our Friday and Saturday night dinners would need to be 11 miles away. It's no problem with me but just wanted everyone to understand. I am still going to look around some more and maybe I can come up with a good deal closer to the Speedway.
There is a Hampton Inn across the road from the $69 a night Sleep Inn. I still have not heard back from them yet. It seemed to be a little nicer than the Sleep Inn.

Closer worth it??

If the hotel will not really have anything around it, such as restaurants and such, wouldn't you be better off paying a little more and getting a place surrounded by businesses, and maybe a better room? Sometimes frugal gets you in a dump. Just an observation from what Roy said about the surroundings. You deside, but also figure in a little security feeling, as some of those hotels 11 miles down the road I have pass on because they were in the ghetto (no offense to living in the ghetto, I just would like to keep my cars the way they came in)

I am for the Hilton at $109.. nicer hotel and will be worth it.. and as you mentioned there are places around it.. I know that Hamptons location and it really doesnt have much around it. Rather have things around us and be closer.

BTW which Moderator "Censored" my F'n Bannanas icon

Well, before everything starts getting into nit-picking, it needs to be said that the "Sleep Inn" is part of the Clarion chain of hotel/motel which is a good outfit. Here's the link to the one I think Roy is referring to, but, he'll correct me if I'm wrong:

For us that come all the way from Norway, the price isn`t that important (the oil has made us extremely rich ). We will most likely come in the beginning of the week, and spend the whole week in the area. Looks like this will be a one week holiday. Because of that, we are willing to pay a little extra, and have restaurants and shops nearby. We will see what hotel/motel you choose. If it`s something we too would like, we will also stay there. If not, we will choose another one. We will meet you guys, and spend time with you no matter what, and we are looking very much forward to this. Can hardly wait.

Not sure I'll be going yet, but if I do, the $69 room works for me too.
After 1200 miles from Iowa, a few 11 mile trips isn't a big deal for me.

Gene,
The Sleep Inn that you gave a link to is a good motel and is a good area. But the parking is really limited. After going to Springfield for the Nationals this past September, I realized right quick that it would be better to have a larger parking area at the motel.
I can look into it and see what they offer. The picture on their web site is exactly like the one that has rates of $69 a night 11 miles north of the speedway. The one you are speaking of is about 6 miles south.

Gene,
This motel is almost next door to the Sleep Inn that you spoke of in the earlier post... Same problem in that it has limited parking. I am going to get this taken care of by the end of next week so if anybody has anymore suggestions, please post them or send me a private e-mail. I am open to all opinions. Everybody's thoughts and ideas are great!

I think that parking space concerns those who are trailering in their car(s).
What concerns all of us is security. Maybe we should get a count of how many trailers are coming. I think we only had a half dozen at Springfield and we had more than enough room for a trailer and its car and tow vehicle(4 spaces). There were also fords and chevies and others there with their trailers. I think you will have to eyeball the parking lots and try to compare them to Springfield.

Thanks for volunteering.

11 miles isn't that bad. Are we supposed to like driving our cars as much as looking at them? I know I do.

Roy,

I didn't see this mentioned - will the Hilton allow stays of less than three days at the $109 rate? If so, my vote changes:

First Choice: Hilton
Second Choice: Hampton Inn
Third Choice: Sleep Inn

I've stayed at all of these chains many times and they are all acceptable from a quality standpoint. However, that extra $40 / night at the Hilton might be worth it for easier access to the surrounding businesses and for reasons of security. FYI - I won't be trailering my car so parking isn't one of my selection criteria.

Should we make this a poll now?

Matt

I have thought about the Hilton and them not letting us bring our own stuff to the conference room. That is a negative to me.
Matt, once I get the information I need from a few motels, I will run a Poll and see what everybody thinks. Good idea! Hopefully, I should be running the Poll by the end of the week. I will narrow it down to three or four hotels for people to choose from.
