Todd,
I will be checking on the Embassy Suites today and see what they have to offer for our club. But I am thinking that since the suites are two bedrooms, people would need to share a suite if they want to save money and I'm not sure everybody would want to do that.
Again, I will check them out this evening. Hopefully, I will run a poll this weekend to see what everybody thinks and we will go from there. I need to get the hotel squared away soon so we can move onto other issues! Thanks for everyones input! It helps me a lot.

Roy,

I wasn't necessarily suggesting Embassy Suites for us, just letting "Hallgeir" know they had picked out a nice place. I'm OK with any of the suggestions thus far...a hotel is just a place to nap for a few hours when one is at an Opel meet. A meeting room where we can all "bench race" and down a few beers is likely to be the group's top priority.

I went by Embassy Suites this afternoon and talked with someone in charge of booking a block of rooms. She told me that since the rooms are limited that particular weekend, the price for our club would be $149 a night. So rooms close to the speedway go for a premium.
I know that is more than most people are willing to pay unless it is your honeymoon. Heck, I didn't stay at a place like this on any one of my honeymoons!
Anyway, they said they may could throw a room in for our socializing if we go with them.
Hallgeir, just to let you know, the place is fantastic. You booked a great place in a great location. After getting a tour of the place, you may not want to leave to go to the car show! They have a girl that will rub your feet if you decide you want that done!

Sounds good. Very good. That girl will have to prepare for a very busy week .
When we booked 3 days ago, the price was $138.95. If we booked today, it would have been $148.95, but if we should stay just for the weekend, and not for a whole week, it would have been $50.00 more, $188.95. See attached pic.

Motel Poll

OK.... I have finally narrowed the motels down to four. I have started a poll, at least I think I got it started. If not, it will be up soon.
The four Motels to choose from are as follows:

1. Embassy Suites: This motel is extremely nice, great parking, many Hospitality rooms but we would have to pay for them. Many restaurants in the area. Only about 1 mile from the Speedway at only $149 a night!

2. Hilton Hotel: This motel is very nice, too. It is about 4.5 miles to the south from the Speedway. This hotel has Hospitality rooms at a charge. They will not allow us to bring our own food or drink to the hospitality room but they will serve food and drink at a cost to us, too. If we go with food and drink provided by the motel, they would give us the room free. Great parking. Many restaurants in the area. All this for $109 a night!

3. Hampton Inn: This motel is nice. It is about 4.7 miles to the south of the speedway. They will give us a hospitality room for free if we book 20 or more rooms, which is no problem. Many restaurants in the area. Parking is just OK but I think it will be fine for us. These people have actually acted like they wanted our business more than the others I have spoken with. The rates here are normally $129 to $169 a night but they said they would let us have the rooms for $99 per night.

4. Sleep Inn: This motel is nice but out in the "sticks" 11 miles to the north of the Speedway. The parking is OK but limited. There are no hospitality rooms at this motel! There are also no restaurants at this exit off the interstate. We can get the rooms for around $69 a night.

Please voice your opinion by voting or speaking up. I will make a "Executive" decision with in a week or so and get it taken care of so anyone who wants to make their reservations, can go ahead and do so at that time.

The Hampton sounds like the best choice. It seems to have everything we need and it's definitely a plus to stay where they appreciate our business.

Just a thought, but if there's a lot of concern about room to park trailers might there be another spot somewhere other than the hotel parking lot where people could store their trailers once they've off-loaded at the hotel?

There is enough room for trailers at the Hampton Inn. It's just that it isn't as big as the more expensive motels. It will be fine for what we are needing in the way of parking and trailers.

Changed dates

Guys, I had a look at the Charlotte AutoFair website today, and it appears that they have changed the dates for the Fall AutoFair to september 4- 7, 2008. I haven`t seen this mentioned on this site, so I thought I should make you all aware of it, so you can change your hotel reservations.

Wow.... Thanks for alerting me to this! I will go to the hotel tomorrow (Wednesday) and get the changes made to the hotel dates as well! I will update everybody as soon as I get things straightened out from my end! If you have already made reservations, then wait for me to update you here before calling the hotel to make sure everything is OK. Hallgeir... Thanks!

Opel Nationals DATE Change!

OK.... There has been a change to the "Opel Nationals" dates from September 12th through the 14th to September 5th through the 7th, 2008!
I contacted the hotel, Hampton Inn - Charlotte University Place, and have made the change as well. Anyone who has made reservations have had their reservations changed to the new dates as well. The lady told me that there were 4 reservations at this time.
If you have made a reservation but did not make the reservation under the Opel Motorsports Club (OMC) group, then you will need to call make make the reservation change yourself. The hotel telephone number is: 704-548-0905.
If you have any questions, please contact me at CarolinaOpelClub@aol.com or call me at 704-782-1866.
Sorry for the inconvenience but this was a surprise to me as well!

Sawdust!
Everyone will be doing their Pre-Registration through me. I will be starting this very soon! The Opel club is just one part of the AutoFair and I will be responsible for who attends with us. They will be giving me two "people" passes per car and a windshield sticker to get the Opel onto the show field. So when I let the speedway officials know about a month before the show how many we plan to have, I will receive what we need and find out our parking area assignment.
Just so everyone knows, the registration is FREE! You just need to show up with your Opel and getting it into the show will be FREE! Not a bad deal!
The only thing you need to go ahead and do is make your reservations at the hotel we are staying at.
If you or anyone has any questions, please ask. I will be posting a new new "post" on here very soon to start the pre-registration! Thanks for asking.
