Unsinkable Opelers
Paul and Lezlie,
Thanks again for getting us all together. It's always great to see some old friends and meet some new ones. I wish the weather could have been better so I could have driven my car. Coming home, Northbound 52 was still closed with about a foot of standing water near Thorntown. ![]() I wonder if Opel makes boats? Ron in Indy |

Thanks
I thank everyone for risking losing an Opel or so at my lake front house today. I still had a great time and it was a pleasure meeting new people and seeing the ones I already knew, I hope every one had as good a time as I did. except for the flood
i am going to try again next year and hope for a little better weather Any way I hope every one makes it home safe. I will post a picture or two if I can get my camara dried out

Thank you
We has a great time. It was comforting to learn that there are people out there with the same "sickness." I enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone.
Leslie and Paul, thank you for everything. We'll see you next year (hopefully with a lighted car). Ross: The flywheel will look great! Thanks! |

Hello Everyone, I was wondering if their is anyone in the Dayton - Springfield Ohio area? I have several GT's. If there is someone around the area I would like to get in contact with them.

Through rain, and flood and dark of night (without rear lights
) we hearty Opelers drove on!Allen and I left home Friday evening and drove down to Springfield, OH. Here we met up with Tom Cavataio and enjoyed the commaraderie and hospitality at Thomas and Amy's home. The next morning we headed out for our drive to Colfax, Indiana. We had Thomas & Amy's blue GT, Tom Cavataio's orange GT and our yellow & black Manta. Within an hour, it began to rain... and continued to rain the entire trip. It took us about 3 hours to reach Paul & Leslie's home. And then... It Really begain to RAIN!! Fortunately, we were snug and dry in their garage, checking out Opels, eating snacks and discussing Opels. For the next 3 or so hours it rained hard.... the yards flooded, the streets flooded and the Opelers yacked on... We were waiting for Kevin & Chris Fier to arrive from up north and were beginning to get a bit concerned. The rain had finally let up, so we went out and gave them a call and here they came up the road. It seems their trip down was a bit more exciting, with gravel roads, fording streams that used to be roads, and cornstalks stuck in the grill of the Kadett!! Since the rain let up, Paul fired up the grill and he and Leslie served us a wonderful dinner. (Thank you!) The sun came out so we dried off and shop vac'd out all the cars (seems some of us had cars with leaks we didn't know about). Then we headed out to try to get home before dark since, for some reason, our Manta now had no rear lights. We didn't quite make it before dark. Tom had to follow closely behind us to provide tail lights, but we made it safe and sound. A closer inspection found that the connection for the rear lights was a bit soggy. So with a little drying out and jiggling about, the rear lights again became functional. We spend another enjoyable evening and morning with Thomas and Amy and then we headed back northward (small detour to visit family along the way). We arrived home around 6:00 p.m. this evening. It was a bit hot, and a bit damp but during the 700 mile round trip, the Manta performed flawlessly. We were able to visit with old Opel friends and make some new ones. Thanks to all who helped to make it a great weekend. Vickie & Allen |

Some young people in town took the other three and were feeding them with a bottle and they were eating a lot. they even cleaned the yellow ones eyes and it can see good now. Again thanks to every one.

Thanks for the Hospitality
Paul and Leslie,
Thanks for again hosting the Opel gathering at your home. The weather was a bit frustrating to say the least, but Brenton and I really enjoyed visiting with everyone. Opel owners are some of the friendliest people around. I apologize for not bringing my Opel; I just didn't feel comfortable driving it in the rain and stormy weather; plus the rear brakes are not really working at the capacity they should be. Yea, I wonder if an Opel would float on water like the VW Beetle was claimed to be capable of doing, . I am hoping to drive my Opel to Springfield in late September and hope to again see you all out there.Randy 71 Opel GT 1.9 Red |

Thanks Paul for having the gathering, even if the weather didn't cooperate until late afternoon. After staying overnight in Ohio (thanks Thomas & Amy)& stopping by a friends lake house on the way home Sunday, I finally arrived back in Pittsburgh around 10:30 pm.
That's the 5th Opel event I've been to this year already & looking forward to many more. I may top the 8,000 miles I put on the GT last year. I hope to see many of you again at the RT 66 event & maybe even Charlotte. Thanks again, ~ Tom |

Raging Opel-holic

wish I could have made it...
The job in Wisconsin ran a bit later than expected, especially the drive back to Peru.......had to move a few more things out of my Mom's house, as well. Cought up with Polker on Sunday in time to hear how things went. Hopefully catch you next year or at another event. Don't know if anyone would be interested in an event in Peru, Indiana (46970). There is circus and heritage days a little later durring the summer with rides and such, as well as a few Opels in town. Thanks for having this, even though I couldn't be there.

I just wanted to say it is to bad the weather did not cooperate this year. Glad to see so many did make it. Pauls event I think will become one of the better midwest gatherings. Paul just needs to find a day when it's not 100 degrees or raining. As they say next year " Lord willing and the river don't rise" we will be there.
Next stop Charlotte, see ya'll there. |
