I thought it maybe becuase Georgia is a low-point (3.2) beer state. But after checking Wikipedia.. that doesnt seem to be the case..

Considering they have a brewery in Tampa along with the one in Pottsville. It is kind of weird.. must be something in thier laws that Yuengling doesnt like.

Of course you know this means we will have 60 cars, 200 people and everyone wanting a T-shirt..
If you want you could make a free store on CafePress.com: Shop, create or sell what's on your mind with custom T-Shirts, unique gifts and more.
People who want shirts can buy them ahead of time there.
Just need to upload the front / back logo to the site.
If you give me the logos (as jpgs) I'll even do it for you and post a link to the store here.
I hate to have to hear you complaining all weekend

Two of my favorite beers are Yeungling Black & Tan and Shiner Bock. Neither are available in New England, I have to travel to PA to get them!

I once spent some time on the phone with both companies inquiring why. Yes, some state have limits on alchohol content, but it was primarily a distribution issue. In other words, if there is no local distributor set up that handles that brand (which doesn't clash with the other major brands they carry, be it Coors, Busch, Miller, or whatever), it cannot be sold in that area. They won't sell direct to liquor stores either, only to major distributors. It would be like trying to buy a quart of Shell oil at a Mobil gas station...ain't gonna happen!

There are specialty distributors who sell microbrewery beers, and of course there are often umbrella corporations who 'own' the smaller breweries, but they have to look at the logistics before committing to take on an 'unknown' brand in a new area, which always mean a significant monetary investment and risk.

One thing I learned many years ago when I delivered beer to distributors and pubs is that the beer business is VERY territorial. I drove for a major beverage company that supplied local distributors and it was incredible to learn how the whole system was set up. You have to remember that very powerful unions, and in most cases organized mafia, is involved in this industry. No one wanted to get caught peddling a brand that wasn't part of their agreement.

Carlisle 2008 - Friday Yuengling Brewery Tour

As a special event for Friday at this years Carlisle

Thought this would be fun considering all those that leave for the Mid-west and New England with cases of Yuengling Black and Tan after Carlisle.

We (or at least I will) will have a private tour at 2PM

May 16th, 2008

Yuengling - Pottsville
5th & Mahantongo Streets
Pottsville, PA 17901

I will pay the $25 fee we only have room for up to 25 people.. but I think that will be plenty.

So I will plan to leave the Carlilse Fairgrounds at 12pm.. and arrive at the Yuengling plant at about 1:30 PM..

So if all of you coming in from the east, west or north want to route yourself through Pottsville and schedule yourself to be there around 1PM. It should be a fun time.

We will stop go to Hoss' Steakhouse in Carlisle on Friday Night.

Charles

Carlisle Import / Kit Car online Registration Info.

Carlisle Events Online Pre-Registration: Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals

Charles, Are we registering as The Opel Association of North America or just OANA this year?

Tidbit from the site to be wary of: "Registration for all activities will be available at the event, but all registration fees will increase $10 after April 28, 2008"

Exclamation From Last Year....

"There is some confusion this year over what name/abbreviation we are using to register at Carlisle....
I'm just off the 'phone from talking to Barb, the very helpful lady at Carlisle, here's the scoop:
So far there are only 2 people registered, I'm one of them, and we are both registered under the following:
OPEL MOTORSPORTS/OANA
That's right, half in full, half in abbreviation....but hopefully will catch people no matter what they use.
Just thought I'd put this out to make everyone's life a little easier....
See you all in a little over 100 days....
Rob."

I'll assume the same goes for this year....now, just add that to my to-do list for tomorrow.... last year

I guess ditto for this year!!

I'm the other one registered. I did it last week. If you were at Carlisle last year, when the motel changed hands, they should still have you in their files, that's how Barb got me registered.

Gene, that message is from 2 years ago!!...copied to last years thread, then I copied to this year...
I still have to decide what to register for this year....

And this is about the Showground registration, not the hotel...for it we are "The Opel Group".....

Oh well, the lady at motel did have me in her files, so, reserving a room was a snap.

Derek,

Is this the convertible GT that you picked up last year? Looking forward to seeing you and Kay again.

Carlisle

This will be my first time to Carlisle. OGTS suggested that I look for doors there. Save on the shipping costs. Do people or vendors bring body parts to Carlisle? Is there a better day to go to find them?

Thanks

As it gets closer to carlisle time a parts thread usually arrises where people can ask around if they need things that can be brought there and others may tell what they are going to bring. There is usually a communal opel parts booth in the vendor section where we trap Gary for the weekend. A couple of years ago another individual had their own opel booth, but I was never able to get a hold of that person. The import replicar show is the best bet for opel parts, I have been to fall carlisle and there is nothing opel related usually (mostly domestic.)
