Also there will be awards only for cars that show up on Friday (it actually started this year with one of our GT's being selected [help me someone with that persons name, I forgot]) so another reason to get in early

made it home

Turns out my alternator is fine , just a failed connection to it that I made putting it in . As always a great Opel adventure.
See you all next year, or Charlotte, or Springfield.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed, and a special thank you to Lynda, who took on the thankless task of squeezing money out of Opelers (also the Porsche, Ford and Citreon owners who joined us!).
We collected a total of $250, and had the bonus of not getting charged tax on the room cost, so Gary received a donation to the website of $100.
(I know there are only 48 names on the list...beats the hell out of me where the extra $10 came from??...did someone forget to sign in?)
Anyway, well done everyone!
Rgds, Rob.

Thank you for the picture of Jordan sporting your purse again. Was that before, during or after the consumption of beverages?

It was actually before! And he was a good sport about it, as always! Looks like I'll have to start shopping for a new one for next year...

Safe and sound

Greetings: I had a blast this year at Carlisle! And, it was nice to recognize some folks. I left Sunday--the weather--damn! Really thought I had that Miata sown up.....next year. Thanks to all who helped out and made us all feel welcome. Until next time, keep in touch.

I made it home around 7pm Sunday without problems in the GT. I can't seem to go to an Opel event without taking home more stuff than I came with. So thanks Vickie, Allen & Ron for hauling back what I couldn't fit in my GT. Also many thanks to Rick, Harold & Roy for bringing the parts to Carlisle for me.

Even with some bad weather, Carlisle is still a great Opel event & seems to get better every year. At the show field I never left the Opel area. I was too busy talking to new & old friends and looking at the cars. Both nights at the hotel conference room were a blast. Way too many beverages to choose from. Thanks Rob for the Steam Whistle & Corey for the new wood stearing wheel. I made sure they both arrived home safe.

If all goes as planned, I'll have the "A" wagon ready for Charlotte & RT 66.

I hope to see everyone again soon,

~ Tom

Carlisle report, 2008, continued

[This is copied from my earlier posting to the classicopels list.]
Sunday, the third and final day of the Carlisle show, was a washout. It rained steadily through most of the morning and early afternoon. It finally let up at noon, about the time most of our Opel crowd had left for home.
At 1:30 the Carlisle Events organizers gave out awards from the entire show field of all makes. Many cars earned recognition from the Standard of Excellence judging, including one from our group, Bill Shreiner's '73 GT. He wasn't present to pick up his award plaque but they said they will get it to him.
The club attendance awards were announced as follows:
1. Saab, with 194 cars
2. Audi, with 98 cars, also voted the "coolest place to hang out."
3. Volvo, didn't say how many cars.
They mentioned several clubs, OANA/Opel Motorsports among them, with high levels of participation.
The drawing for the give-away car, a '92 Mazda Miata, wasn't until 3pm, despite the 2pm time announced on the tickets. Roger Summy, along with Jordan and Lottie, stuck around to the bitter end but didn't win the Miata, so I hear.

In my earlier email, I promised to check with Charles about the Opel club awards that he gave out on Saturday. They were as follows:
Custom class
1. Rob Cassidy, Conrero GT
2. David Krizon, V-6 Ascona wagon
3. Vickie Gage, '75 Manta

Modified class
1. Roy Bell, '73 GT
2. Charles Goin, '71 Kadett
3. Roger Summy, '71 GT

Stock, Restored class
1. Bud Joyner, '68 Kadett wagon
2. Rick Gradwell, '73 GT
3. Derek Burroughes, '71 "Kay's" GT

Stock, Original class
1. Vickie and Allen Gage, '69 Kadett LS
2. Jim Erikson, '74 Manta
3. Pete Anastopoulos, '59 Rekord Olympia

And finally, the Best of Show cup went to Roy Bell for his '73 GT.

Congratulations to all of the winners.
A big thank you to Charles Goin, who organized events and judging for our Opel group. Charles always takes care of details such as ordering and selling the t-shirts, purchasing and giving out the trophies, making sure that the Opel group gets its tent each year and arranging for table and chairs, and laying out a schedule of events for us. Thanks, Charles.
After a long run of many years, Gary Farias finally gave up his vendor space this year (good for you, Gary!) and spent the weekend with us on the show field. Charles rented an indoor space to sell some Opel NOS pieces and his wiring kits. Thank you, Charles, for allowing me to sell used parts out of your space.
The Carlisle weekend is always a highlight of my year. I enjoy getting together with old friends and meeting new ones.

Carlisle '08 photos

I have uploaded the photos I took at Carlisle this year. If your Opel was there, I'm pretty sure I captured it on film.
