Nor Cal Fun Run

Hi, Is the Sac to Sonora run still "happening"? (60's talk) It's about time to go for a ride in my gold 69 GT1.1, if I could join, would visit friends in Pine Grove Friday, then meet you a few miles away in Jackson or somewhere else on 49. Sunday I'm going to Half Moon Bay Dream Machines, it's about 70 miles from here. There were 4 (or more?) GT,s at HMB last year. Theres still time to enter show, open to all kinds of machines from bicycles to bombers. Roy

It looks like the route of the fun may change. I am rerouting it to miss Auburn. It should shave an hour off the run. We can leave IHOP and head down Hwy 50 to Latrobe Rd in El Dorado Hills. Then to Sonora. If this a problem contact me.

If I can join part of this run Sat I would meet somewhere along the way near (not really near)Jackson, would need to know HiW, location, appx time you're passing by, not expecting anyone to change any plans for me. I'm trying to fix a stuck horn problem today (dont use it for years, use it and it stays on).

So far from the responses I've gotten on and off thread we should have at least 10 coming to IHOP.

That is wonderful!

The instructions are not quite correct for the El Dorado Hills interchange. Take the first EDH exit, it should say Latrobe Rd South. Stay right off the exit and continue on south on Latrobe Rd. I will be at the intersection of Suncast and Latrobe Rds.

Thanks Chris for organizing this. Had a great time driving through the foothills. In all 9 cars participated in some or all of the run, 1 neat Ascona, 1 Manta and the rest GTs. The event was mared by only one small incident at the very end which I will only tease everyone with. It involved a wheel.

I agree, was a great run. Everybody had a good time. I will post a link to some video coverage I have, hopefully by the end of today.

Well the 2nd annual Nor Cal Fun Run was a blast. We had 9 Opels at IHOP for breakfast, 7 made the fun run, and 8 at the Lumberyard and OGTS.

Sadly my GT the Wasp had the rear drivers tire separate on the way to Sacramento and had to spend the fun run at IHOP the whole time. I was able to limp it home that night though.

It was a nice warm spring day, not too much traffic.

Other than the Wasp, there were no mishaps on the way to OGTS. (cough, cough)
details to follow

So a total of 10 Opels participated. And an Opeler in his truck to pick up any pieces that fell off.
Very good turn out. I will be posting pictures shortly.

(And no, just because I drove it earlier guys, it doesn't mean I caused the wheel to fall off.)

We also had one pickup truck attend. And while most people on the road made way to allow the Opels to stay grouped, they didn't understand the truck was with us. But the driver (professional driver) worked the vehicle, traffic and curves to catch up with us each time he got cut off.

Good time, good roads, good weather, and good lunch at in a private room at a micro brewery. Good visit up to OGTS, but it was a lot like going into a candy shop with your allowance burning a hole in your pocket.

And now for the money shot.

Did I say there were no mishaps on the fun run? Was that a fib? "Technically", no. Gils wheel fell off in his driveway, no lie.

Sorry about the faux pas with the wheel! However the bright spot about it is, with the tire higher in the fender opening, it sorta has a nice XKE Jag look to it.
