Had about a 180-200 mi round trip. GT ran well and it was a good day for a fun run. KSHE people were kinda Sh*t Heads. They let Lewis and myself in before they detirmined Opels were not " American Cars". Then would not let Tony and Al in. Next time we'll have to try another event. As I was leaving some idiot in the crowd was overheard asking if Opel was american. Good to see everybody down that way and you guys should think about going to Opels In My Yard over by Indy in JUNE. I'LL try to bring it back up after this.
Take it easy
John

Most car shows around me are 'American Cars' only You have to look to see if the shows have an Import class or say 'ALL' cars. I was lucky to sneak in to some 'Muscle Cars Only' shows. Talk about segregation.

Hey John-

Glad you and Connie made it down and had a good time. All things considered, it was kind of spur of the moment, so aside from the K-SHE sillyness, I did have a good time.

For those that don't know, K-SHE is a major classic rock radio station. If you remember the old tv show "WKRP in Cincinnati", their rival radio station "KPIG" is a parody of K-SHE right down to the pig mascot. They used to be a good station and played a tremendous amount of rarely heard music and had two fantastic dj's (Mark Close and Rich Dalton, listening to them was a music eductaion)...then they fired them back around 84. This left KSHE in a pickle. All those records that made the station so cool didn't belong to the station...they were the property of Close and Dalton. When they left, so did two thirds of the playlist. The quintessential "classic rock" station suddenly had to sign up with one of those programming services. The station that once boasted a drive-up window in the booth so listeners could come by and talk to the dj now had their music piped in from somehwere else in the country.

For the record, I saw nothing on the KSHE web site about it being American only and judging by the really cool black Type 1 VW BUG that was leaving as I pulled in, we weren't the only ones who thought it was open to all. GM made, Buick dealer sold Opels may not be 'American', but since most of that "american" bias stems from the anti-import union attitudes from the 60's-70's that were unhappy with the unfair wage advantage and loss of 'American' jobs to foreign job markets, I take issue with the 'American' Ford trucks made in Mexico and the 70's-80's GM made in Canada that were in attendance. Does this mean I can enter a Brazillian made Chevette? It is made in South 'America'.
A friend of mine has a similar problem with his Australian Ford Falcon. When it's at Ford show, the crowd loves it, but the Ford Falcon Club of America will not let it be parked with other Falcons at any show in which they are in attendance. He is usually relegated to the "Other" class. I'm sure his car would have been allowed in (it is in the style and philosophy they wanted at the show, then again, a mid 70's Ford Ranger (made by Mazda) with a small block Chevy would have been allowed in, too).

I don't really have an issue with someone having a bias, we all have them, but being biased and ignorant is...what?..."American"?

"No, the motor is not in the back."
"No, your friend in high school did not 'peg' his speedometer."

Thanx to all who came to the show, I had a great time. Should have put on some sunblocker and a cap, I really burned on my face. Sorry that I was away for a while, had some co-workers who came ,so I had to hang with them for a while. Good to see John and Connie who made the trip from Springfield, finally after co-workers left, I made it back to where the Opels were parked and John and Connie had already left, sorry didnt get to visit more. You really have a nice car. Can't wait till Springfield show, really enjoyed last year. Good to see Tony, whom if it wasn't for him I probably wouldnt be able to have driven my car to the show, really even tho they wouldnt let me in, just to park it in the lot was big for me. Also good to meet some new Saint Louis area Opel Lovers, Lewis and his father Don.
Lewis really has a nice Gt for his 1st car. The sunburn was worth the get together with everyone , lets try to plan something either at someones house or a park somewhere , maybe we can make a yearly thing, The Saint Louis
area Opel meet. You don't have to be only from the Saint Louis area to attend, all Opeler's welcome. I'll get with some of the Saint louis guys and we will try to come up with a time and a place.
