Deutsche Classic 2008

Gary, can you please post this in events?

The 4th annual Deutche Classic takes place in Fleetwood (near Kutztown PA) on July 12, 2008. Having gone the last two years, I can testify that this is a very nice one-day German vintage car event that shows a lot of good cars, 150 at least, and not the usual bunch of late-model Audis or Saabs you see at Carlisle. Lots of nice vintage original and tricked cars. Here's last year's photo gallery and a link to the event.

It's a bit steep at $25 to show a car ($15 general admission) but includes a decent chicken dinner. Guys can win a tire toss (Duane?) and there's a "blue jeans" contest for women, (which is actually about car trivia).

OpelGTGuy (Rick) and lkyRog (Roger) showed up last year and we had a great day. No reason we shouldn't gather up some of the local and regional folks. It's a nice drive out there and not far for the T.O.O. gang.

Jim

Thumbs up

I'm fairly sure that I will be coming out to this great event again. Lots of nice German iron to see.

I am planning to attend again this year also....someone has to get there early to get the nice shady spot...hopefully we can have a good head count so we can cordon off a nice Opel's section.

For those who weren't there last year...it was really nice!

We need more competition for Jim (He fails to mention he took home the Opel Trophy last year) modest guy he is

I'll try to be there this year. Not sure which car to take though.

How do they judge the cars and who picks the winners?

They have two or three semi-pro car judges who go around and judge all the cars at the event inside and out. They do a good job, clipboards and all, though they are not Opel experts.

I received a note from the organizer this week:

Dear Jim,
Thank you for the encouraging note. I was vending parts this year at
Carlisle Import, so unfortunately I never was able to get to the show field.
38 Opels is a nice showing, especially in light of the stormy weather on
Friday.

Sure would be great to see the Opel marque grow at the the Deutsche Classic.
Once again we will have a separate class for Opel with a custom built first
place trophy. If you would consider donating a logo or interested Opel part
to incorporate into next year's trophy (2009) - that would be great.

Kids 12 and under are free. But of course they need to purchase food if
they so elect. Thanks Jim for all your efforts to help us grow! Let's
keep in touch.

There is only one trophy for best Opel, though Fred said there will be more next year if we turn out a good number this year. If we bring out five or six cars this year I'll gladly sit out the competition so someone else can win (not that they wouldn't anyhow).

Here's last year's trophy:

Here's a bump. Looks like we have five or six interested. Manta Mitch said he might come up as well.

Anyone else?

Hey all. I plan on going to this event with my GT. I was wondering if anybody from the Philly area was going. I live in south Jersey and it would be nice to travel all together. Let me know.

I'm planning on going. I live about 30 miles north of Philly in central Bucks County (Doylestown area). Rick lives in Hatboro, Jim lives in Swarthmore and Jeff lives in Salfordville. Dave is in NJ, but I'm not sure if he's going. Traveling together would be fun.

I plan on driving the Manta up, I live in the Beverly/Burlington area. I am trying to get Mike from the Florence area to bring his GT also.

I think I'll be heading out the night before to visit friends so I'm probably not available to carpool out. I am available for convoy duty on the way home though.

Ouch,

That's cold, dudes. You guys have no clue about the people I have known or the places I have been or the things I have seen. But maybe you are right nonetheless.

Luckily I have my garage and satellite radio to keep me company.

Well, I will refrain from partaking in such juvenile and immature behavior such as this , however, I must say that you will have more friends than ever before once you get your garage set up, especially after you install the lift.....

If you want even more friends, just add heat.

Don't fret Jim, as long as you have an interest in Opels, you have us as friends, whether you like it or not Now let's get that Manta to a SCCA event!!

Yeah, that's right Jim, we only like you for your Opels. It has nothing at all to do with the person that you are.

I only got back into Opels so that people I'd never met before would like me.

Now I feel all warm and fuzzy, or is that the beer?
