Opel Nationals Information Update
I will be handing out your AutoFair/Opel Nationals packets at the Hampton Inn where most of the Opeler’s are staying on Friday night beginning around 7 PM in the hotel conference room. Anyone who cannot make the 7 PM Friday night “gathering” please let me know and I will send your information to you in the mail. Also, if you get to the hotel by 6:30 AM on Saturday, I will be there to give you your packets as well. Please keep in mind that you must have the windshield sticker on your windshield along with your entrance pass to get into the show field. Friday evening, we will be having a Pizza Party at the hotel conference room. Bring your own drink of choice! Saturday night, we have a restaurant lined up for all of us to have dinner together. It is 7.1 miles to the north of the speedway. It is a great little privately owned place that has great food. The restaurants closer to the speedway will be so busy, it would take us forever to get there, have dinner, then get back to the hotel. So we decided this place would be a better choice even though it is a little out of the way. The prices are great, too! On Saturday morning, September 6th, we will be leaving the hotel as a group around 7 AM or a little before and caravan together up to the speedway, 4.7 miles to the north. The speedway officials want all the car clubs in place by 7:30 AM because the gates open to the general public at 8:00 AM. They are expecting over 100,000 people for the four day event, which starts on Thursday, September 4th. There will be 13 trophies awarded to the best Opel’s. Those of you who do not win a trophy, you will receive something for your participation. The “Best In Show” car will be able to come back on Sunday and enter into a line-up at 1 PM on pit road to be judged against all the other “Best In Show” winners from the other 54 car clubs. Each “Best In Show” winner will get to go into the “Winner’s Circle” at the speedway and have you picture taken with someone special (I don’t know who that is right now) along with an MC talking about your car and you! The overall AutoFair “Best In Show” winner will be announced once everyone has gone through the “Winner’s Circle”. Dallas Mize’s GT Spyder won this event a few years ago against all the muscle cars there. I bet that pissed off a few muscle guys! If you have any questions, please contact me or post something here and I will do my best to help you out and to make this an enjoyable experience.

I'm sure it will look at least as nice as the car I'm bringing, no worries.

Any Opel being saved is worthy of respect. With or without a car, all Opel lovers will be included. Love the car, love the gang and vice versa. Jim

Coming
Hotel is reserved, and I am going down to Napa today (where my car is stored)to see if they still want to display it for some time, or are ready to rotate it out. If so I will bring it to the show of course.

Bumped back to the top!
![]() We now have our assigned parking location at the 2008 Opel Nationals to be held at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The area we will be parking is a prime location to show cars at this prestigious event. It is located on the inside of the track, in the grassy infield along pit road. We have this location for Saturday and Sunday. I will be handing out your AutoFair/Opel Nationals packets at the Hampton Inn where most of the Opeler’s are staying on Friday night beginning around 7 PM in the hotel conference room. Since everything seems to be centering around the hotel, I'm going to go ahead and get a room for Friday night. Looks like about $10 extra for 2 beds vice one, so if anyone's on the fence drop me a line ASAP and I'll go ahead and spring for the extra for you.

car condition
I can vouch that any condition is more then welcome to park with the nicer cars. One year I brought up my rusty yellow trash filled GT. I won a prize for it. A can of rust inhibiter. I couldn't have been prouder. My first trophy from some great friends.

I am having great difficulty deciding whether or not to go. I won't be bringing my GT
, every turn in the re-assembly has been a challenge, I was going to put the headliner in this past Saturday and it wound up taking me 3 1/2 hours to install the rear package shelf (don't ask). Anyway no glass means no travel for the car. Also my insurance company will not insure it unless it has an interior, goofy but true. Seems like a long ride to not bring my GT, but then some are coming from Europe!, so that makes me a cry baby to have to drive 12 hours.

Jeff... Come on down anyway! I will get you a free pass to get inside the track to be with us. Just see me Friday night. I am sure you will be able to hitch a ride with an Opel over to the show Saturday morning!

I was really hoping to make it down for this event, especially in light of our friends from across the pond who made the trip. Baz in particular... I was hoping to meet you in person finally!
But the thought of the 14 hour trip on my motorcycle is not appealing right now. My Opel wagon is far from road-worthy and not even registerable right now. Sorry I missed out on all the Opel events this year! Bob
