Thank you to the organizers!
We had a great time at the show and got to share it with our 20 month old son and our parents as well! It was fun to chat with everyone! We were glad to have Melanie's Ascona back in action for the show and have to give special thanks to Gil and Dennis at Opel GT Source for all of their help with the new 2.0L motor. Melanie got plenty of pictures, so I will try to post up a few in the next day or so. Once again, thank you to all of the organizers/volunteers!

Got home safe!
Thank you Mary for helping to coordinate the event and keep us all informed.
It was a great event, and I loved the cruise up Mt. Rainier. Got home late last night in Cali. Best gas mileage with the 2.4L GT was 32.45 mpg, worst was 30.5 mpg (but was averaging 95 mph while doing so). Won't say what state this was in!

Congrats on what from the pictures looks like a successful Opel National Meet. What kind of turnout did you have, number and type of cars? Looks like the people up in the Nortwest have quite a few Opels.

Tacoma 2009
Yes, We had a great 3 days!!!! It is hard to say exactly how many Opels we had present for all that was planned. Some made the event for the 3 days and others came to only one, So I would say around 50 or so. Really great time.
We will be posting pics of the 3 days of events in just a bit. Takes time for an old person to do. Keep checking this site.

Just a suggestion:
Just a suggestion.
You might want to have a new 2009 Tacoma gallery started here for peoples new event pictures to be posted for easier location in the future. Tacoma Gathering of Opels - Opel Photo Gallery

Had a good time at the Nationals. It was beautiful driving the California & Oregon coastlines, and up Mount Rainier. Drove approx. 1900 miles round trip and averaged 30.2 miles per gallon. That's better than last year's milage, which I attribute to some minor mods and better tuning. And fuel prices were about one third lower this year!
Good job Mary/Walter/John. I've got a few suggestions regarding next year's meet, assuming we'll have another drive to one of the area's many natural wonders. Regarding the drive: 1. Print trip info sheet; including destination, distance, route, and mobile telephone number of the person leading. 2. Print a strip map of the route. 3. Anyone helping line up cars for photos should use universal hand signals. I noticed several folks made some up and it's counter-productive. 4. John (other John) on his motorcycle did a great job blocking lanes and running interference to keep us in a group. Good job. Let's do it again next year. 5. Everyone going on the day trip should arrive at the jump point with a full tank of gas. I was pretty blown away that a car without fuel would be trailered to the event. 6. I liked that John's ex-cruiser was used as lead vehicle, and think it helped clear the road. Don't get torqued over these suggestions. They're things that will improve next year's cruise. Overall, it went well and I appreciate the effort that was made. |

Thanks Ma and Pa Opel and all the rest involved in putting on the 2009 Opel Nationals.
It was a great opportunity to show my youngest what his Opel needs to look like when it is done. After looking at all the Opels he has some pretty good ideas for what he wants to do. He was talking up a storm all the way home. It was nice to meet you two and put faces to the names. I wish I had budgeted the time to stay for the dinner. My loss, I'm sure. Thanks again
