Carlisle 2009 - Show and Hotel Info

Showfield Registration for cars:

I just registered on-line for the 2009 Carlisle show to be held May 15th through the 17th. I know it's early but I "surfed" across the Carlisle web site Carlisle Events Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals. Experience The Cars. The People. The Excitement. and noticed the site is accepting pre-registrations.

Hotel info from Rob (rionart):
Hotel block booking is made, same drill as usual, phone up and ask for a room from the 'Opel Group' block. We will release any spare rooms a couple of weeks before the event.

Dates for this year: 15th-17th May

Carlisle Events Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals. Experience The Cars. The People. The Excitement.

I've spoken to the hotel, and we have 39 rooms available to "The Opel Group".
Rates are up slightly to $95.00 (normal is $119.00 so we are still getting a decent discount), and the conference room stays at $75, which I've reserved for our evening "technical discussions"
The hotel details are:
America's Best Inns - (717) 245-2242 - 1825 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, PA 17013.

Carlisle Hotels: America's Best Inn Carlisle PA

Yvonne is now co-ordinating our booking, her office extension is X1101.
So start planning....May will be here before we know it!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again!!
Rob.

Hey Roy,
I normally kick off the Carlisle thread in January, but you can never start it too early.
I'll do my usual block booking of the Hotel then, which holds the rooms until a couple of weeks before the show, and gives us a decent rate too.
rgds, Rob.

Book Early!

Rob,
kay and I will have a slice of that action again. The snow has hit Bainsville today and I am already looking forward to the spring.

All the best to the Carlisle gang for Christmas and the coming year. Health and happiness to one and all. Thanks to Gary for another fine year of Website management.

Derek & Kay

Rob,
I didn't mean to step on your toes by going ahead and saying something about Carlisle. I am glad you are taking care of the hotel! Please keep us posted as to when we can register at the hotel. Thanks for taking care of this! I'm already looking forward to the fun and meeting up with my Opel friends again!

No toes stepped on ...we will use this thread as the 'official' Carlisle 2009 thread...I'll get off my butt over the holidays and sort out the hotel, post details etc....

Not even close to May yet and I'm already getting my nuts busted. Of course I am referring to those darn stubborn LCA bolts . Just because I have said for the last 3 years that I was bringing my car to Carlisle and then to Charlotte and no one has seen it yet doesn't mean I am not trying....wah wah wah....crying and running to my room now.....

Okay, I'm registered for the event and now ready to make motel reservations.

But would like more details on Friday activities on the Opel side of things.
Being a Carlisle newbie and driving from the middle of Iowa, what will the Opelers be doing on Friday? Will arriving on Thursday be the thing to do or will on Friday be sufficent? Thanks.

Mark;
As being one that comes from a distance away to attend Carlisle (it's 11 hours for me) I get there Thursday night, and Friday is spent meeting the others as they arrive. Saturday is the main day. and Sunday is spent going back.

Thanks Gene. Sounds like a plan. Guess I'll do the same.

Update: Reservations made.

It's still early Jay. Some of us register, but then end up not being able to get there (I have been in that group), so there is still time to make your first visit.

I should make it.. but will probably be bringing the Pontiac GTO.. primarily because the Kadett had a massive engine failure I havent checked out yet (too cold)... and if it is as damaged as I think it is, I wont have it ready by Carlilse. Debating on restarting my EV work on it (I already have the motor) or replacing the motor with a 2.4L or custom V-6 etc..

None of which I will be able to afford until I finish and sell my 66 GTO convertible.. Not to mention the complete lack of workspace for anything since I have to park the 66' GTO in my garage.

Once I sell it though I may also be on the look out for a GT for my other son.. eh really wants a GT, being he is over 5'-11" at the ripe old age of 14.. by the time he is 16 he will have to learn the human origami techinique of getting into and out of and driving a GT.

But I digress..

One may be under the impression I like to vend T-shirts.. etc.. because I do it every year.. but you would be wrong. Takes a lot of time.. and in the end I end up with a box of unsold T-shirts and usually break about even. I do like the fact that others enjoy them.. and which is why I do them. BUt I think this year I will take a break.. unless thier is a large out cry from the group.. I think I would rather enjoy myself at the show than try to push T-shirts.

I may do them.. but completely Pre-order only.. that way I just give the T-shirts to the people that ordered them.. and I don't have to spend my time at the show selling them.

Also I am thinking this year I am going to fore go any awards... unless someone wants to do it, or step up and handle the judging and such. Again.. I rather enjoy the show than run it this year. So any volunteers are welcome.

Charles

Just put the design on Cafepress and let people just get them if they want them. People can also pick them up after the show if they apprive of them as well.

If you would like I could handle doing the shirts this year. I am renting a space to work on my GT and Manta and have taken my screen printing equipment out of storage and will be back in production by the end of February. That way I will have more control on printing and design of the shirts.

I was going to mention this in the next week or so. If Tony would work with me on a design I'd have no problem printing a 4-color design and stay within the pricing parameters of the past, with any profits going back to Gary.

Charles if you want I could also get the trophies. A guy where we are located used to
do trophies full-time but still does limited work on his days off. I could make up trophies based on last years criteria. Only problem is I can't remember what they look like!!!

Last years I went cheap with "cups".. previosu years I have done everything from etched acrylic to custom made with opel spark plugs, etc.. I try to make them different every year. THe only thing I have to give you is the year and such...

This years theme is "Lucky 13" I do believe..
