John,
My son, Taylor and I will be coming on Saturday for the show and staying overnight at Route 66 hotel. You can count us in for dinner at Top Cats. Thanks! See you all later this month. Please hold one XL tee shirt and one medium tee shirt. I don't remember what colors you have, but if you have white; we'll both take that. Randy Stirm |

Well folks I guess it's time to do a little updating. I think I got all the shirt orders in and a few extra, our Saturday afternoon awards are here. If anyone has something to bring to the door prize drawing please do. As to the event itself. Friday is the one day I am up in the air over. In the past we have went to dinner as a group and did at least a portion of the parade route to downtown. For those of you who have been there timing has always been close. This year the place we ate at is closed and the parade starts I believe at 6:00 pm. This year it may be better for those who need to eat before the parade line up to catch it on their own and then have us meet on the Hotel parking lot at 5:00 pm to travel to the staging point. This may work out for a later group dinner at someplace like Golden Corral. If we pull out of the parade at the hotel and collect any stragglers there are places to eat going toward the Interstate. I think if we plan to meet Saturday morning by 8:30 AM on the parking lot at the Rt 66 Hotel it should put us at the gates in good time. I am sure it will be as before those who are pre-registered will go in and grab a parking spot and those who are not will catch up to us after they register. We will gather to vote on our own awards at 3:30 pm and then try to get to Top Cats by 5:30. If you get there too late to drive in with us I will post a number for you to call or just tell the folks parking you are with our group and they should send you over. Sunday most folks like to sleep in after a night at the hospitality room so lets figure to leave the parking lot for downtown around 10:00 AM. Everybody start putting in your request for a nice weekend, I think we should have a good turnout. They will turn our block of rooms loose a week before the event.

I thought this would be a good time to do a bump. It's now getting close to the time they will close out our room block so if you have been on the fence on this it would be time to call them. Most everything seems to be in place, I talked with Gill Wesson at Opel GT Source and he is to send us some goodies for the Saturday drawing. Not sure on weather but it has been great here lately. I'll be waxing the GT this weekend and getting ready to see you all the following week.

Just a short countdown to Friday now. Spent yesterday cleaning the GT and Connie's G8. The package of goodies from the folks at Opel GT Source got here Saturday. Only thing left now is to cross our fingers on the weather, as of now 30% chance light showers. Could be Carlisle weather this year. We had that the secund year of the event with about eight of us huddled under a bus stop shelter on Saturday. I'll be putting RainX on my windshield, it has been know to bring out the sun. Look forward to seeing as many as can make it next weekend.

. . . has sadly conspired against me once again . . .
. . . and though repair is soon to be underway after waiting for hinge-pin tool to remove and rehang door for a couple weeks, sadly not in time for Route 66! I was really looking forward to this one until someone decided to turn left without first looking left!!! . . . very nice paint job was only about a month old!!

Hate to see the damage to your car. Hope Granddads shop is really good. It would have been nice to see you make it up here as it has been awhile. As Cub Fans say " wait til next year". Paul We should be able to find something for you. |

Anyone coming up thru Missouri???
Tom King won't be attending the Rt. 66 show but has a Kadett trunk floorpan I've been looking for. Just wondering if any of our friends will be anywhere near Springfield, Mo. on there way north and could get it to Springfield, IL.
See you in Springfield! Gordy |

Sawdust, Broszzy, and I are meeting in Dwight, IL at Ambler's Texaco Station, built in 1933, at Noon on Friday to tour some of historic Route 66 on the way to Springfield. The station is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 66 and Illinois Route 17 in Dwight, Illinois, United States. We'll caravan down and do a few photo shoots along the way, while getting there for the Friday cruise.
Please JOIN US if you are able. Sorry for the late notice, and thanks for idea Hans!! My cell # is 262-751-1053. -Jeff W Last edited by manta73wi; 09-24-2009 at 10:28 PM. Reason: added phone # |

It's anybodys guess on the weather this weekend. Today was mostly rain then dry for awhile this evening. Looks about the same tomorrow. Saturday could be okay after some before noon showers. I plan to be at the hotel by 3:00 pm or so on Friday. Those who want to cruise should figure to meet on the parking lot there by 5:00 pm. There is a restaurant at the hotel and other food joints close. I intend to snack some before the cruise and then go get something to eat when we get back to the hotel which should be maybe 7:00 to 7:30 pm. I hope we can have the Hospitality room up and running around those times. My phone number during the event will be 217-622-9828. Let the fun begin.

John,
My son Taylor and I will not be driving an Opel to the Route 66 show this year. The 74 Manta restoration (Taylor's car) has had a few setbacks and is not ready to drive yet. My 71 GT is not running well and I did not want to take any chances driving it this year. We are coming in my 94 Ford Probe GT Saturday morning and we are looking forward to seeing everyone. I believe I already had told you that Taylor and I will both be planning to eat with you all at Top Cats. See you on Saturday. We will be bringing two CDs with restoration pictures. Is there anyone who is planning to bring a laptop computer? We may not be able to bring one. Hope the weather cooperates. Randy Stirm |

What a great couple of days in Springfield!! The weather on Friday for the evening cruise was sunny and clear. Nine of us in Opels joined the 700 some cars for the cruise, with all sorts of folks lining the streets waving at the passing classics. Some folks went to dinner, and then we ended up back at the hotel for swapping Opel stories and taking it easy. A few more Opels joined us for the show downtown today. We had a great weather until about 11:00, and then it started sprinkling. It sprinkled for a couple of hours, but then cleared again for the rest of the show. We gathered at Top Cats again for dinner, and are now back at the hospitality room at the hotel. We're all having a blast! Big thanks for Tom, Kevin, Bill, and the guys for help with the plugs. Opelers are the best! If you're looking for a fun Opel event, put the Springfield Route 66 Festival on your calendar for 2010!
