Re: Route 66 Mother Road Festival 2004
Just a couple of things. I am going to send a CD of the pictures I took to Calvin and he said he would upload them to the site. Also I will send one to the OMC folks for the newsletter. I have seven Opel on the Mother Road T-Shirts left if someone wants one. I have 1Green XL, 2 Blue XL, 3 Yellow XL, and a Yellow XXL. Cost is $13 apiece and $4 mailing. I hope a Bunch of folks can make the Route 66 Mother Road again next year.
Thanks John |

Re: Route 66 Mother Road Festival 2004
Wow! What a great time we all had at the Route 66 Mother Road Fest. John and Connie did an OUTstandng job of organizing our group! Kudos! It was so cool to drive in a caravan of Opels to the event and then to be gathered together. At 17 cars, I believe the Opel group had the most cars organized as a group there (not counting the Corvettes and Mustangs which the show promoters organized themselves). The Morgan folks had 14 cars and were noted as a "feature" of the show (OK the fact they were from England and starting a cross country trek on Rt 66 was cool). It was my first Opel event outside our local Milwaukee area gatherings, and with such fun people attending, would be hard to top. It was great to meet fellow Opelers from the midwest, and the choice of hotel & restaurants worked well (OK, the filling station had potential, but in reality they let the group down despite John's letting them know in advance what to expect - still, it was fine!). I'll certainly want to be back next year, and encourage all fellow Opelers to do the same. Calvin was right in that your Opel doesn't need to be show quality - mine certainly isn't, but I am so glad I went. Awesome cars, fantastic people, neat facilities, fun events, fab food, great fellowship, and many laughs were enjoyed. THANKS again to you all for making this weekend such a success!

Re: Route 66 Mother Road Festival 2004
I'm also extremely glad to have been a RT. 66 event participant. I had a great time all 3 days. It was definitely worth the 9 1/2 hour drive & about 1300 miles I put on the GT over the weekend. As you've already read, Friday night was a good time and Saturday was awesome with 17 Opels parading from the hotel to our parking area in the streets of downtown Springfield. Even Sunday with just 4 cars lined up keeping the Opel spirit alive, we stayed until around 3pm when the show was over. John then led us all to the highway to go our separate ways. I got back to Pittsburgh about 1:30 am, a little tired, but it was worth it.
Many thanks to John & Connie for organizing this. I got to make some new friends & see some great cars. We had great weather all weekend. This is definitely a "Must Do" event. Next year, if you can't make Carlisle, PA or the OMC event in CA, get to this. I'll be posting some pics in the photo gallery too. ~ Tom C Pgh, PA |

I wanted to say again how great it was to have all the Opels here in Springfield for the show. It's always a leap of faith to take our cars on a long trip and some folks did drive a long way to get here. Now for the real good part. That many Opels coming in together was noticed by those who run the show. I had a talk with the guy who is in charge of the car side of the show on Sunday of this week. He wanted to know how he could get other groups to do what we did. The Idea of groups kind of doing their on show within the Route 66 show was an idea they liked. They are putting out a promotional DVD to car groups to have them attend the show. I did let him know they needed to look at a multi car discount and to loosen up the ways to get out in the evening. He said they were trying to get a couple of the big downtown hotels to have a buffet on saturday night and hold the sockhop downtown. If anyone has other ideas they would like me to pass along please post them. I did tell him a tent like at Carlisle would be nice. I hope the OOA meetings this month are well attended and look foreward to you guys wowing em again around here next year.

I rather take exception to the "Neanderthal" part.
