If your thinking about attending, please post a reply so I can get a rough idea how many are interested. No commitments yet.

I will announce when tickets ($25 car/driver) are available (sometime in March) and continue to have them available while they last until June 10th. (First come first served). There are ONLY 20 available slots.

This is a really fun event. Not only will the Car Clubs be there but more then 200 race cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, Ford, Chevy, Jaguar, MG, Datsun, Cooper, Austin Healy, BMW, Formula 1 cars from the 60's and more! Again, the PITS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! You can walk around and watch and talk to the teams preppeing their cars for the races.

NW Historics Update

The Pacific Northwest Historics are coming. I now have all the details and forms. If you would like to attend, (ANYONE FROM ANY STATE CAN ATTEND. NOT JUST WASHINGTON) please PM or email me. I will be organizing the Opels.

kgm1969@hotmail.com

Here's the Car Corral (and event) details for attending:

The Pacific Northwest Historics will be held June 30 through July 2 at Pacific Raceways, off SR18, just outside Auburn, WA. The Pacific Northwest Historics is the premier vintage sportscar race in the Pacific Northwest and is the largest event of its type in the USA where all proceeds go to a charitable cause. All of the entry fees and any other donations go to the uncompensated care fund at Children’s Hospitall. The goal this year is $450,000 and the total donations over the 18 years may hit the $5 million dollar mark.
There will be approximately 250 vintage race cars, 1969 and older, entered in the races. The featured marque this year is Allard. The Historics are a stop on a national reunion tour so there should be a number of these unusual cars both in the races and in the car corral.
As usual, the car corral provides an opportunity for local car clubs to meet and display their cars
The guidelines for this year’s event are summarized below.
• The 2006 Pacific Northwest Historics will take place Friday, June 30 through Sunday July 2. General admission ticket prices are the same as last year at $25 for any one day and $40 for the 3-day weekend, and include a program. There is no additional cost to put a car in the corral. Reduced price tickets are available for children. Passenger tickets may be purchased in advance or at the gate on race day. The passenger tickets can be purchased with the car corral tickets, or discounted tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at a number of car shows.
• Car corral entry includes a dash plaque, goody bag, program, eligibility for trophies for cars in various age categories, and possible raffle prizes.
• There will be no formal car corral on Friday, but anyone purchasing a weekend or Friday car corral pass will be able to park in the car corral area.
• Brian Redman will be the guest celebrity at this year’s event. See the SOVREN website for information on his impressive career.
• A special car corral for street rods and muscle cars is planned for Friday. This is separate from the “normal” car corral and separate areas will be designated for the two corrals.
Preregistration for the Car Corral is required and there is a limit of 20 cars per club per day. The deadline is June 15th this year, although it may be a bit earlier if the 250-car limit is reached before that. That limit is required because we can’t get more cars than that on the track for the parade laps in the time allowed for that activity. Any of the cars involved in the reunion activities that are in the car corral will count toward the limit. You may want to confirm the space available prior to sending payment as the deadline approaches.
• Clubs can reserve a space for an information booth for $20 per day or $35 for the weekend. These booths may be used for distributing information about the club, answering questions about the cars, generally promoting the marque, and as a place for the club members to “set a spell”. Although some club regalia may be sold in the Car Corral, more general sales must take place in the vendor area. Contact SOVREN Guild for more information.
• Please send in block requests for car corral tickets! This significantly reduces the workload and chances for error on my part, ensures that each club has an equal opportunity to register, and avoids confusion over which specific club someone is a member of, for those marques having multiple clubs (Corvette, Porsche, Mustang, etc.).
• A limited number of car corral tickets may be available on race day. The car corral is laid out based on the pre-sold passes so those obtaining tickets on race day will be asked to park in an overflow area, rather than with their clubs. The cars in that area will not be allowed to participate in the parade laps, although they will enjoy all of the other car corral benefits.
• The gates officially open at 8:00AM on all three days. Please don’t arrive early. Nothing is going on at the track until 9:00AM and, if someone gets parked in the wrong area, it makes a real mess out of the car corral. Plan on arriving no later than 10:00AM on Saturday and Sunday. This minimizes conflicts with those walking into the event and gives us time to get everything organized for the lunchtime parade laps and car corral judging. Anyone arriving late may be asked to park in the overflow area, rather than with the other members of their clubs or held outside of the car corral until the parade laps are over.
• The parade laps are an important part of the Car Corral experience and every effort will be made get the participants on the track during the lunch break. Be aware that the parade laps require the coordinated efforts of numerous volunteers and delays due to weather and mechanical problems during the morning sessions can force the parade laps to be curtailed or canceled. Your understanding is appreciated.
• For the safety of the racecars and drivers, if any car has known or suspected fluid leaks (oil, coolant, etc.) it should not be taken on the track for the parade laps.
• Parts of the track can be hazardous at seemingly moderate speeds. Please read and follow the printed parade lap guidelines that will be distributed at the track and keep the parade laps safe for everyone.
• The car corral can be a very busy place during the race and we have limited staff. It’s very helpful if a representative of each club is available to assist in getting the club members’ cars parked, making sure that everyone gets properly registered, getting the club members organized for the parade laps, and answering general questions about the clubs from the folks walking through the corral. Who knows, you might even pick up some new members! A single contact per club will be greatly appreciated, especially when trying to get everyone out for the parade laps and then back in and parked.
• If your club will have people picking up will call tickets, you may want to have a representative pick up the tickets and then distribute them outside the gate. This minimizes the hassle of checking names on a list at the gatehouse.
• The car clubs are invited to help with soliciting items for the “goody bags” distributed to the Car Corral entrants. These “goody bags” might contain advertising items, such as key rings, pencils, product samples, and brochures or catalogs put out by automotive dealers or equipment suppliers. Contact one of the Car Corral coordinators with questions or to arrange to get any donated items picked up.
• Clubs (or individuals) can support Children’s Hospital by donating $1000 to the hospital for membership in the Children’s Checkered Flag Club. They will be recognized in the race program and will receive the same benefits (comp tickets to the race and special decals – how these might be distributed is up to the club) as individual members plus special signage in the car corral area. All of the funds raised go to the hospital.
• Trophies for the “Best” cars entered in the Car Corral in various age categories, have been an interesting and enjoyable part of the Car Corral for a number of years. This tradition will be continued. Categories planned for this year are: 60’s and older, 70’s and 80’s, and 90’s and newer. I am attempting to arrange judges from some local youth organizations this year. Additional information will be included with your tickets.
• The SOVREN Guild can always use additional help at the race and in preparing for and promoting the race. There are numerous volunteer opportunities – forms and contact information are available on the SOVREN web site (http://www.sovren.org). Some of the pages may not be updated yet, but they should still be useable. Volunteers receive complimentary tickets (No, I won’t trade them for car corral passes!), VIP parking, lunch, refreshments, and a volunteer T-shirt. If you volunteer for 2 or more days, you will receive an invitation to the Saturday "On Track" dinner which includes a silent auction and live entertainment. Students receive a community service certificate from Children's Hospital. Note: There is a separate link for information on the Pacific Northwest Historics at http://www.northwesthistorics.com .
• Donations for the silent auction, held at the Saturday dinner for the racers and volunteers, are always accepted. If you would like to donate items for this auction, contact SOVREN Guild to have them picked up. Business owners in your club might consider purchasing advertising in the race program or having a vendor space at the race. Additional information can be obtained from the contacts at http://www.sovren.org/Page_18.html .
Thank you for your interest in the Pacific Northwest Historics Car Corral and for supporting Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center.

Just a friendly bump of the thread as a reminder for those that might still want to attend. It's open to ALL Opels from anywhere. So far I only have about 3 interested. 2 GT's and a Manta. Help represent the OPELS in a positive way. This is a HUGE event with a chance to take your car out on the race track too!

Please EMAIL ME AT kgm1969@hotmail.com if your interested. It's $25 for driver and car. (Read the posts above for details.) It goes to a good cause.

Where exactly is Auburn, Kyle?

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

Just a final bump of the thread. Only one week away. It's too late to officially join the Car Corral, but if you show up EARLY (8:30AM) on Saturday morning with an Opel we might be able to sneak you into the corral.

My cell is 206-510-6584 (I'll be up getting ready to prep the car by 7:00am)

The final Opel count showing up this year is a dissapointing 4. Maybe next year we'll have more. I'd like to see more then just GT's representing....

Thanks guys for coming out. We had a 3 car turnout on Saturday. Duane (aka duaneb) came up from from Oregon for the day!
It was a lot of fun.

My Opel took home the FIRST place trophy for the 70's AND 80's classic car catagory. Several Porsche's, BMW's, Alfa's, Lotuses, most of the American muscle cars and even a DeLorean and a Pantera were among the 70's and 80's cars the Opels were competing with...and all of them were cherry!

Chalk another one up for Opel!

Way to go, Kyle! The Opel GT can certainly be a contender in any form of competition, the trophies clearly prove it. Such exposure undoubtedly stimulates people to think about doing something with "that old GT in the weeds" that exist somewhere in every county...

Thumbs up NW Historics

Congrats Kyle You are the MAN!
What a GREAT TIME it was! Cant wait for next year. Sorry I couldnt find you before I had to leave. Heres a pict of your GT on the parade lap. Ill bring you an uncut, uncompressed copy to Tacoma in a couple of weeks. Anybody that didnt go to the race missed a fantistic experience. Unlimited access to to the pits, cars and drivers and to watch and hear all those classic race cars on the track wheel to wheel at speeds up to 180mph was mind blowing
My GT made the trip like the true old trooper she is. 60 to 70 mph-378miles and averaged 28.4mpg. Not bad for a 33 year old car I didnt fare quite as well, my face and arms are the same color as your car
I think there was more people looking at, and taking pictures, of our GTs than there was any other type of car. And thats really saying something considering the quanity and quality of cars on display.
Thanks again Kyle for setting this up so we could show off our babies.

Almost forgot, I met an old guy up there that has a 73 Manta for sale. 1.9 little rust, factory sunroof, 4 speed, bad cam. Im not brokering this car, just trying to save another Opel. PM me and Ill send you his name and Ph#

Yea, it looks pretty cool. Here's another one my neighbor took for me.

I cropped it in Photoshop. (The originals are like 2600x2600 or something.) I plan on getting this one sent out to get printed and framed.

Kyle,

Congratulations on your first place trophy and on all of you guys raising everyone's "Opel Awareness" at the show.

I also was wondering how your newly-rebuilt front suspension performed on the track and which ball joint setting you finally chose to use.
