Call a lawyer, or at least threaten them that you are. Legal complications have an interesting way of making people work a little harder.
I had a 500 gallon water tank shipped by DHL - they lost it. After a very little bit of encouragement, they found it again.
You've got to remember, if the folks you're dealing with were smart enough to be doing something else, they probably would be. Just keep going up the ladder until you've found someone with more than two brain cells, then be very polite, but completly unyielding. Call every day, the motor will turn up.
    No, that's not a defect, that's a feature.

Has Roadway officially informed you that it is gone or is there still a chance it can be found through the tracking number? I sent some glass from Texas to New Jersey and it took almost 6 weeks to get there. On the other hand, I sent some parts to New York and it took less than a week. Your sure that it can't be recovered?

    1) Get in touch with the CEO (Bossman) of the Trucking Company and ask for an explanation - have waybills and shipping paperwork available to fax to him and quote pick-up details. Keep all paperwork originals, just send or fax copies.

    2) Go to your local Chamber of Commerce and ask their advice.

    3) If it has been "lost" or "stolen" it is an FBI matter as you are talking InterState commerce here. See your local Sherif or Police Chief.

    4) Rattle LOTS of cages to sharpen their minds and make sure that it is not just incompetence at work.

    5) If it turns up anywhere in the Opel Community someone will notice as it is a one-off custom motor well known and pictured.

    6) NEVER give up - hound the trucking company till you have full tracking details of the shipment and who the individual involved at the time of disappearance was - then sue his ass to breakfast ... and back again.

    7) Let only the appearance of the motor at your doorstep satisfy you ...

    8) Make the bastards involved SUFFER.

Ok here goes the list of vendors and where reciepts stand.

OGTS has them on archive and will pull them back up (parts)
Blakes is closed now but possibly open in the morning (block and heads)
Danny agreed to replace a reciept for head work
OU is still a question (tranny clutch and parts)
Penrose steel will do it on monday (flanges and tubing)
Shneider cams probably will but closed already
I'll ask CSK but not very likely (starter and water pump)
Petronics is no way, I don't remember who I went through
Exhaust flange is a no, I won't ask

As for it turning up, I'm still hopeful but if anybody spots even a 265 for sale it is a dead givaway.

My guess is it was delivered to the wrong customer. They probably needed to move its pallet to get at something else and just forgot to put it back on the truck! Make them backtrack EVERY stop that truck made. Its sitting on someones dock and they have no idea where it came from! Believe me this happens all the time I"ve been driving trucks for over 12 years.

This is the honest truth, We were muscling that crate into a truck at about dusk and one wheel slipped off the 2x6 ramps. I'm leaned against one side and the wheels get chocked to keep it from going back or over. A frantic call to a relative and about 45 minutes later it's all loaded and damn was I sore. The following monday I went to work for my primary employer and talk about irony.

    The Ultimate Ramp Online Store

the preceeding week I was working on Summit racing parts on loan, ...I later found out that as a full time employee one of the ramps is mine for free.

This isn't a plug but an effort to get it out lest I start laughing hystericly again.

God I hope that box turns up, I couldn't handle it being returned.

makes you wonder tho. Somehow the bill of lading that isn't to leave the shipment made it to it's destination. The paperwork made the trip but the crate didn't. Unfortunately alot of dock workers don't know to ask for a signature when items are picked up. I tracked it out of Colorado to Chicago and then it made it to Pennsylvania where we hear it vanished. Now it's all about reciepts rather than tracking it from this end. I'll continue to gather reciepts but I want some names at Roadway to deal with. No way in hell am I giving off reciepts that were for group buys and multiple projects without knowing where they end up.

This is the guy I was talking to yesterday... matt fry 303-695-3605. He is a supervisor that I demanded to speak with, and if I'm not mistaken, he is from CO. I'm not positive tho... the original # was 1-800-641-9572. What is very annoying is that whenever I get someone on the phone to check the computer to see where the crate was going they seem to stop in there tracks and say"hmmm...thats strange" this guy was supposed to call me back yesterday afternoon and give me an update whitch he never did. Maybe if we both lean on him somthing will happen. The first thing they seem to want to say is file a claim and I explain its not about the money, its the fact of the parts coming from all corners of the globe and the effort put into this motor. I WANT THE MOTOR!!!
    I'll keep you updated.

Joe, I see your point. There is a really bad twist here that you may not have caught. The last actual known sighting was in Carlisle Pennsylvania the week prior to the car show. I spoke with Matt and he is an idiot. The full discription has been revised and I kinda raised a bit of hell. they are checking every dock it went through for it. I have phone numbers for every terminal it passed through as well as corporate. The tracking numbers are 8913479163 and 0890946504. The second number was issued here in Colorado at the Aurora depot. Later today I'll chew out Doris in Pennsylvania and Terry in Wisconsin again. That is where it got lost, between Carlisle/Harrisburg and Oak Creek.

    i hate shipping companys

greetings from iraq again, well i used to work for my best friend at his import/export company in California, he deals with all the major shipping company and has good relations with most of them ill see if i can have him give me some names or numbers to help you out. i no how much that **** sucks when something just falls off the face of the earth basically speaking. i sent a package to my brother the day before i left for iraq contents inside was at least 800 dollars as well as several papers and other items which can never be replaced, ups says they have no clue were it is and after 8 months ive still been trying to find my package. good luck.

It may seem like a longshot, but do you guys know anyone in the area where it was last seen? Phone calls and faxing and registered letters are all fine and dandy, but someone standing right in front of you has a different effect. Especially if it is at the 'last known location'. Heck, just being able to look around the dock and knowing what the crate looks like can help alot.

Ok, here is what I do know. It was confirmed in Carlisle on the 25th of May. That is the point that it got lost. The paperwork arrived in Oak Creek on the 27th. When it got seperated from the paperwork it became a lost item that goes to the major shipping hubs to be opened up and given a discription and logged into the computer system. Not only did they need an accurate discription of the crate but also what was in it. They now have that and are going through thier system to match it to what is in thier lost items. At 3 PM I spoke with Doris Thomas in Carlisle and she was up over 1000 items looked into for similarities so far. Once she has a complete list she will verify each one. There should be an answer sometime tomorrow. Joe, I think the saving grace is that bright yellow intake. Once I knew it had been opened somewhere even she thought that it would be easy to find given colors involved. Oh and her direct number is 717-790-5019. She has been real helpful so far.

I was reading Dave's last post and I just stopped...at the part where they were over 1000 'lost' items. Not good promotional info for a shipping company.

the 1000 lost items got me too. check my math on this one. From 1230 to 3 she got through 1000 and she said it would be after lunch tomorrow her time to see it finished. That's an average of 400 lost items an hour, then 8 Am till noon is another 1600 bringing the total of 600 pound packages lost real close to 3000. That makes for a tidy 900 tons of lost cargo. If memory serves me a loaded semi is around 30 tons and a battleship is around 350. Alrighty then so they have lost the equivelant of two battleships and 8 or 9 fully loaded semi trucks of cargo.....that's impressive. I can hear it now....It's 300 yards long and is kinda off grey has gun turrets on the front and back, the packing was pretty new and was last seen near the Potomic river. Invoice shows quantity 2.........please advise.

Ok that would be 8 or 9 semis with thier full load+ truck and trailer. maxed out they are closer to 15 tons of freight without the truck and trailer. So more like 20 full loads of freight if they didn't loose the truck and driver as well. .....I'm not sure I'd put loosing it all past them right now.

    Ok, I'm twisted

Spoke with Doris this morning and sent her a link to this thread for the pictures of the motor and crate.....hopefully she reads this thread and sees the bad name thier company is getting here and that gets this problem solved.

Doubt it but one can only pray.
Cant believe that many packages get lost thru this company!!! I see Roadway trucks every day here in WI and find it hard to believe the lack of ambition they have to resolve issues.
