A day in the life

Stopped at gas station on the way to work. Got comments on the car from the lady at the cash register.
Stopped at car dealer parts place (for minivan parts), had a small herd of salesmen around it when I went to leave, had to edjumacate the younger ones.
Took super twisty "scenic drive" at local park (far too fast )
Stopped at coffee shop before second job, 3 conversations from fellow coffee drinkers.
Went through drive through fast food, got the guestion from window 1, "what's that?"
Got the "I love your car" at window 2.
Days not over.......

Its so much fun driving around in a 30ish plus car.
The best line I ever heard was "the fastest I've ever been was in one of those cars"
Glad you had a good day Opeling around.
And on that note guess what I'm driving to work tomorrow....

Comment fron a guy and his 13 year old son looking at my opel at the last car show I took the GT to. "Dad- what car is this?" boy asked Dad. "Son, I dated your mother in that car when I was in High School". "Really Dad?" "Yup- Datsun doesn't make em like that anymore!"
I just kept my mouth shut

I seem to get the most comments (sadly) from the older male - "what yer got in that thing, a small block?". "What year is she?", but mostly, just "cool". I really wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I mean, if I've learned anything from TV, it's that all you need to be instantly popular with supermodels is a neat car. I mean, it worked for the Hoff...right?

Driving around (yes daily) in a Sportwagon gets it's quota of comments too. Had one guy in a van yell at me from across the next lane what it was I was driving. Then at a gas station, a guy took the time to slowly drive by the car and then ask what year it was, I told him and he just smiled, slowly driving off and looking back in the rear view mirror.

I get comments all the time as well. Had a guy walking down the street as I was driving by scream: "MY GOD, THAT'S AN OPEL GT!!!! AN OPEL GT! AN OPEL GT!! LOL. I stopped so he could get a better look. People drive past me giving me a thumb's up. I don't think the the car has netted me any poontang, though. LOL

Well, y'all warned me it'd be like this and that's fine. Not why I wanted one but it's sorta fun being the only really "unique" car running around. There's lots of cool cars out there but not many seem to be driven daily. That's half the fun as far as I'm concerned. I shouldn't probaby be driving mine so much, but hey, if the commute can be made more interesting why not? It's not like I'm trying to keep miles off it or anything. Better to remind the older guys and introduce the younger ones then let her get dusty in the garage. Besides, the GT gets better mileage then my Intrepid or the wife's Town and Country, and certainly many more "smiles per gallon".
PS ride home from second job with my 13 year old daughter (who still complains about me selling the motorcycle), she's playing "her music" on the radio and we're digg'n the ride. I asked her if she'd like to take the "fast way home" or the "fun way" (less highway, more turns). She opted for the fun way. That's my girl!

Yeah, I drive my 73 model pretty much every day. I have about 6 miles of rural, paved, windy road, and then about 9 miles of highway to get to work. It puts me in a good mood coming and leaving from work. I love it. It gets great mileage, is a blast to drive, and looks cool. I can hear all the women say: "There's a sexy 45 year old man in a jade mist green Opel; I want to make love to him"

My GT almost caused incidental vehicular damage the other day at Kroger. As I was driving through the lot one lady shopper pushing her cart rubber necked around so much she almost smashed her cart into a parked car. She just barely stopped in time. Then when I came out another lady was walking all around the car in circles trying to figure out what it was.

I don't know. Sounds to me like a vulture checking out a potential meal. Good thing you didn't let it sit still too long.

I'm actually kind of surprised, I've been driving the "Ropel" to work for about two weeks now (after a recently, slightly stupid incident involving my Subaru and an un-fastened hood...*ouch*), and it seems to get really pretty good milage - about 20-24 - even with my lead foot. That almost makes up for the lack of Cindy Crawford in my passenger seat.

Mine was close to 28 but it was a bit of a guesstimate and I haven't been topping off or keeping tabs lately so that might be high. I haven't found the computer on the GT yet, you know the one that has digital read out of MPG, outside air temp, trip odometer, all that stuff, where is that again?

at the gas station

A while ago, Dieter & Manta at the gas station. A guy in his fifties comes by.
- "Hey, what's the engine in this?".
- "Its a 1.9 liter 4 cylinder".
- "Yeah, I had one of those things when I was in High school, but with the factory 350 SB in it".
- "Oh, really?"

Dieter

Ah, the life of an Opel owner.

I have a 35 mile commute, one way. First 15 miles to work is divided four lane thru rural hills. I've been driving the GT alot lately, putting 70 miles a day on it.

There are two kinds of people that comment on them. One is the younger person who has no clue what it is (Yep, it's a '67 Ferrari, very rare, y'know?) and the other is someone who is a bit older, 40+, who had one or knew someone who had one (they almost always remember them with a smile).

It's kind of funny watching people speed up to get a closer look, but then try to look nonchalant as they slow down and pace you, then slowly pass..

Your non-working clock is really a dummy face plate- if you turn the face 180 degrees, all of the digital read outs are on the back side. Just remember to turn it back after your done.

If you do, you'll have to refer to the thread about fixing the broken seat back mechanism

My neighbor called it that. I took offense, made him give me a beer.

What about us younger ones who have owned a opel and know what they are so there are three. You forgot one group.
