Alas, summer is over...

For the last 3 months, I've been driving my rotary GT to work. It's really a fun thing to know that, no matter how rotten my day was, the GT was in the lot waiting to make it all better. The fun factor more than made up for the lack of AC - although you might get a different opinion from my co-workers
Now, however, it's sadly time to put the GT away - hopefully for not too long. My daughter has just started back at school, and I drive her since her school doesn't yet have a bus. Although she loves the Opel, I don't think it's safe for a 5 yr old to ride in the passenger seat. So it's back to the more mundane modes of transport...no more destroying unsuspecting sports car owners at red lights. No more perma-grin from the commute to work...I'm depressed

Just go out for "groceries" more often in the GT.

I plan on strapping my kid into the Opels' passenger seats as often as I can. I hadn't even considered that people might perceive me as irresponsible for that. I actually think an Opel's pretty safe when you factor in its controllability.

uh

The safest seat in any car, no matter the car, is the front seat. Better seat, better room, better seat belts. The only reason for the whole stupid "kids in the back" thing they've been preaching as of late is air bags, which is not a concern in vintage cars. Your Opel's front seat is far safer than a Miata's or recent pickup's front seat for your kids from that standpoint.

Heck, rear shoulder belts are a pretty recent invention, and I wouldn't strap anyone I love into a lap belt only. If given the choice between a rear lap belt and a front lap/shoulder combo, the kid will be up front every single time.

Make sure you have good, working seat belts and drive her around at will.

Two words:
The wife.
or, if you prefer five:
She who must be obeyed.
