Neighbor's stupid complaint!

My father has been repeatedly annoyed by our neighbor doing works, and disturbing the peace during the, protected by law, "rest-hours" as we call them here in Greece. So yesterday they got caught in a peaceful conversation over the fence, and my father explained his complaints. Being unable to say anything back, due to my father being correct in his arguments, the guy said:

"Ok, but I have a complaint as well. I am disturbed by your son having the hood of his car open all day long", and he meant the Opel...

In Greek, the equal expression of "he has the hood open", apart from the literal meaning, it can also figuratively mean "he does work to the car". But since I never disturbed anybody (with noise) when doing work to the car, because whenever noise is unavoidable (even during non "rest-hours") I take the car out of habitats' area, he CAN'T have been annoyed by my works. Sooooo, that means he is annoyed by the hood being physically opened. That's why today I left the trunk of the car open all day long (8:00am->18:00pm).

That must have been a change, don't you think?

And best of all, the trunk was opened because yesterday I carpeted my subwoofer enclosure, and had it opened for the smell of the adhesive to go away... Even if he had anything to say to me for playing a bit with his nerves (I admit that, I could have left the enclosure at the basement), there was some reason behind it...

Oh, I should mention, the hood was closed!

You didn't say what the neighbor was doing to cause the annoying work disturbance, but it seems that putting the hood down on a car when you're not doing any work on it might be a fair trade to get him to stop doing something like using the leaf blower at 7 am. Jerry

He was doing things like mowing the lawn, using the leaf blower, banging with hammers and such, say at 7.00am.

The funny thing is, I don't leave the hood open! That's what I meant... I do spend sometime around the car, mainly during the summer months, that the weather permits doing so. But since I do not make any noise when doing so, it was like he was saying that he is annoyed seeing my hood opened (how bad can that be?).

Anyway, all I said (and did) were meant in a humorous way, and it was based on a game with words, which gets lost in translation. We have a very good relationship with him and his family, I even take care of his dog and hens when they are away... He was just a bit surprised, and tried to say something back, and made an unsuccessful comment. No big deal, it happens! In fact, even if I did leave the hood opened all the time, would you be annoyed of an open hood 200 yards away? I sure wouldn't...

sounds like you need to disconnect the exhaust down pipe from the mainfold and spray some carburator cleaner in the air intake of the carburator. Rev the engine and fog the area with the hood open. See how he likes this. Ron
