Oh my.
Here's my story... I am an owner of a wonderful pampered orange GT with perfectly awesome black stripes and such... point is, she's my baby and I take good care of her. I've always wanted another opel, and I will probably always want another opel. This year, I found one not far from me for 800$. The nice man said he would take 500$. SCORE! So my hubby bought it for me for Christmas : and we trailered her up (not drivable; needs brakework) and brought her home. Best Christmas ever! I have a one car wide but very long driveway, with my precious baby parked at the very top under cover. So hubby backs up the trailer and the plan is to roll it off behind my opel, then push it up a little bank off the side to be nestled out of the way where she can be worked on. I say, "I don't think there's enough room there, we're going to roll it into my car." However my dad says its just fine and I trust him because he's my daddy. So we start to push the car off and the wheels keep locking up (been sitting 10 years) and it wont roll completely off the trailer; the back tires are off but otherwise it's stuck. So! Dad tells hubby to drive the trailer out from under the car... didn't sound like a good idea to me either but hey they know what they're doing, right? I say, "hey maybe we should put some blocks behind the wheels just in case she starts rollin" and Daddy insists it aint goin' nowheres. So hubby pulls truck and trailer forward and suddenly, Oh My! my new '69 GT goes crashing into my perfectly cared for stunning '72 GT daily driver/local summer show winner love of my life...![]() So now I have the strangest mixed emotions EVER! I am now a proud owner of 2 GTs; however my nice one needs some body work and paint... again. But my sweet dad promised we could use it as a chance to get a fresh new paint job... same as before but maybe we'll add some flames for her second time around now all I can do untill then is stare at the old pictures of my cars pretty butt!p.s. I wanted to do the hood with twin scoops for my second GT; however gt source discontinued it. Anyone have an idea where to get one? |

I know the feeling...
I checked out your gallery and you do have a nice looking GT! All I can say is that I know how it feels to damage your car in your own driveway (having done that myself when I was not much older than you are now
). Best wishes getting your car back in shape.Matt

What a shame. This is another classic case of not everyone involved seriously considering all potential failure modes and probability of occurance. There is a law of statistics that states "Rare events do not happen to me." The point is if something has happened in the past it is NOT a rare event and will happen again unless corrective action is taken. You obviously had the right mindset but the others did not. Engineers while in engineering school are taught to list every and all known and possible failures and design out these failures (take corrective action) while actually engineering the product and then verify such has been done by testing, at least that is the process and things still happen. You would of made a great engineer since you already think about potential failures. I understand how you feel about your car getting hit.

I feel your pain......on the brighter side of things, you get a new paint job out of the deal. And no one was hurt in the process. A few years ago my 13 yr old son was playing baseball in the front yard with his buddies and they decided that my 77 Pontiac Grand Prix(tank) was in the way, so the knuckleheads(my son being knucklehead#1) puts in in neutral and the rest of the kids push. Well, they didnt realize the drive-way is on a slope and there goes knucklehead#1 behind the wheel, flying down the driveway, THRU the garage overhead door, and hits my beloved GT in the rear end!! Luckily....the GT was wrapped in blankets and in neutral. It rolled forward a bit and only got a "dink". Of course the tank was unscathed,# 1 son was also fine.....garage door was totaled, but his buddies took off on him like they were on fire and he was left holding the bag!! He got an earfull, and all his privilages revoked for a month!! I still point it out to him EVERY time I can and he just turns beet red about it!!

Thanks for reading everyone! I do feel better knowing that it could have been much worse; and it probably is time for some shiny new paint, considering it is a daily driver. Nothing is unfixable... "just" need to go through the spare tire area and pop it out a bit, then on to new paint. She was in neutral and I'll post pics IF I can ever find the cord to my camera again... I probably make it sound worse than it is but to me it was the end of the world as I knew it
![]() yellaopelgt- that's what kids are for or so I assume... maybe you got a cool new garage door? alfred- yes I'm in that group but nothing ever happens there
