GT sighting in Nova Scotia

My first involvement with Opels started in 1969 when my father purchased a 1970 Opel Kadett Sedan while we were living in Soest, West Germany. (see attached photo)

We really enjoyed that vehicle and it Autobahned us around Europe with minimal problems. We brought that car back to Canada in 1971 and by the time 1981 came around it had pretty well used up all of its '9 lives' and I ended up selling it for $500.00. I have often wondered where it ended up and the history that it obtained after I sold it.

Anyways........we shall move on to 2000 when I found my current Kadett Rallye in Washington State and had had it shipped out to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Between the time I sold my Kadett in 1981 until I bought the Rallye in 2000 I had never once seen another Opel in any of my travels. I am a typical car buff who spends more time looking down long driveways and beside barns seeking that elusive find then actually looking at were I am driving.

So we are driving along and my wife asked me what I was looking for and I responded that I was looking for an old GT that I could restore. She kinda chuckled and said my chances of seeing a GT were a million to one.

We are on the old highway that hugs the coast just outside of a place called Oak Island. Oak Island is where Capt Kidd buried his billions in Gold.

I see this blue car approaching and its whizzes by and I look at my wife and said............'holy crap.........that was a GT!'

I spun the old Honda Accord around and matted it in hot pursuit of that GT. I finally caught up to it and caught the drivers attention by flashing my lights at him and blowing my horn. He pulled over thinking that perhaps his car was on fire..............!!!

Well once I explained to him who I was and my involvement with Opels we had a really great roadside chat.

I do not remember his name but he told me he was from Calgary.

And about that Gold on Oak Island. My chances of finding that are about a million to one. Maybe I had better start digging.........

Cool story.
The Kadett Rallye was a good car. My wife bought hers while in college, then went on to get her GT. But the Kadett will always have a special place in our hearts.

I'm glad to hear you've got yourself one. Good luck.
