Moron

My wife's first car was a 1969 Kadett Rallye in silver with black stripes. How she loved that car. Another acquaintance of ours had the identical car but was rather stupid. He put it in first, turned the wheel full lock and gradually increased throttle input until it flipped over. He told both his parents and the police it was stolen after he dumped it into a quarry.

I'm guessing his parents paid for the car. You can get the same feeling at the carnival and it is much cheaper, well except for the flipping over part.

Let me tell you what a moron is.... I took my GT for a spin a few weeks ago and stopped at a BBQ joint to eat. When I came out, there was a guy, with his kid, standing at the GT just looking. When I came up, he asked me, "Is this a Corvair?"...

I said, "Yea, an Opel Corvair". He then said he had heard of them but never seen one before....

Hummmmmm....

Roy,
Better print this out and carry with you in case you see that guy again!
(It's a good thing mine are different colors, to minimize the confusion)

As I fueled the GT the kid they pay to stand around and watch us pump our own gas comes over and tells me how his girlfriend used to have one like mine. I usually let folks talk and reminisce 'cause they don't always want to hear about my car. Anyway, the more he talks, the clearer it became that his girlfriend had a Vega. I never did correct him, just let him go on remembering the good times. Perhaps he even had something exciting to tell his girlfriend at dinner that night, "Babe, I saw a car just like your 1st car come in today". Hopefully he didn't mention roll-over headlights.

Confussed

I had to GT out of the garage a couple of weeks ago in the driveway checking the fluids under the hood. The kid that just moved in next door (about 17-18) walked over and looked under the hood. He ask "is this Japanese" I said no Germany to which he replied "oh, a VW" I said no it's an Opel GT made in 1971. Then he came up with a real pearl of wisdom " could it be had with a V8" I said "no it only came with one engine, a 1900cc 4 cyl" and he said "it would really be cool with a V8 to bad you couldn't get one in it" Trying my best to keep a straight face, I looked at his late model Monte Carlo sitting at the curb and said "I bet the V8 in your car will really get up and go"

I don't mean to brag or nothin', but sometimes I find myself to be on the Moron side of the equation. And it's so sad when I can't even blame it on the drink.

Try driving a Sonett, that will bring the idiots out of the woodwork. Repeat after me, "No, it's not a Z-Car."

Even better than the thread title, Bugs Bunny would have said, "What a Maroon." You'd have to be old enough to appreciate it.

Here's the real funny part, it's "supposed" to be the older people who would know or even recognized the OPEL name, but, uh uh I dropped my wife off so she could pick up her Blazer, I was in my Sportwagon. The older mechanics in the shop asked her what I was driving when I left, she told them it was an OPEL. Well, I go 1/2 mile down the road and get gas. Pull up to the pump and across from me is a couple of kids in a "ricer", looked like they were just out of HS, and as I got out to use the pump, both exclaimed, an OPEL, cooooollllllllll Go figure......

The best line I've heard yet came on my trip home from the Carlisle meet. I'd stopped at a produce stand and some guy came up asking whose Opel Manta was sitting out front.

I said it was mine, at which point he uttered,

"Wow, is that a real Opel or did you build it from a kit?"

That's one I never expected to hear.
