Progress on the Röhrl-Rallye

Finally, I'm on the Kadett again. The rear axle was mounted already a while ago, but now I have all front and rear brake parts connected and finished. The front brakes are large vented discs from a German Opel Rekord E 2.2, the rears are '95 VW GTI calipers on '95 Audi discs, with everything else homemade to put it all together (this is NOT a finished kit, so don't run out and buy the parts yet!). The Audi discs were re-drilled to 4x100mm (Audi had 4x108mm at that time), and I fabricated an aluminum part to center the wheels, discs and hub all with one part. I fitted the VW parking brake cable yesterday, fabricated a pulley to connect it to the E-brake lever. Today I spent nearly an hour opening a hundred of small and large boxes, searching for my front brake pads. I finally found them laying on the floorboards of the Kadett, in plain sight for a year or two .
If I continue with this speed, I will be finished in another 10 years

Dieter

Dieter,

This is looking fine. Do you have other pics of the car posted? I know from the Hemmings article you were working on it before you knew what it was, but I am curious about the original configuration.

Glad to see some progress happening on this project. Was too wild not to get going on it. I think it will give the Jaegermiester a run for its money IMHO. Okay I know that got missspelled .

On it's own 4 legs again

The first time since December 1989 (not a typo - nineteen-eightynine) the Kadett is on its own 4 wheels (besides having a temp rear axle temporarily mounted for the last move). I liked it so much, I had to waste a full hour and unpack the left fender and the door. They were painted and packed in spring of 1998, when I left Germany, and haven't seen daylight ever since. The first thing I saw was the color difference to the body. All parts were painted at the same time with the same paint, but the body yellowed down in the last 10 years. Since it needs to be re-painted, I'm not worried about it.
Just a million more details to build and put in... but I'm sure I'll make it in time for the Spring Auto Show in Charlotte... in 2015
